Zeeaire: I still regret gifting Paraworld to my cousin. Wasn't that bad after all even though I'm not really into RTS it was definately one of the better RTS games with the cool prehistoric setting.
I agree! Pretty awesome game and very unique and memorable.
More interesting than other major titles out there. This, Merchant Prince II and Armies of Exigo... my gog wishlist holy trinity <3

Ueber: Great, now the next Releade from Spieleentwicklungskombinat shouls be Paraworld!!
Yes, please! OMG! Anyway, I am very happy for this release. :D
O_O wow ! Now that's rare!
Ah, this thing. Glad to see it finally came out, leading to the resurrection of an old thread from 2018. My inner moderator fumes.

And gosh, this looks like the incestuous cousin of Lemmings Revolution.
i swear i remember seeing this on the store shelves back in the day.
The trailer gave zero explanation what kind of game is this. Also I know it's from 2001 but man it's ugly af.

It's been compared something along the lines of Dungeon Keeper X Settlers.

Though I do agree with it not looking much a looker for 2001; part of why I compared it to the Lemmings game that nobody remembers.

As an American who likes GOG having more European games that never saw wide release here, I say "keep this up"!

Hm, I played this game back in days and it was beautiful.
Back then, the graphics and the game itself was praised by gamer magazines.

I was one of those Sega Genesis generation and to be honest the jump into 3D for PC and Consoles are not the smoothest one. I consider most PC and PS1 3D games are ugly af compared to vibrant 2D graphics and N64 games are only slightly tolerable. I actually tried Final Fantasy 7 and think that the graphic is shit and went back to old 2D RPGs.

PS2 era was when I finally start accepting 3D games. But boy PS1 era was rough.

Beholdings and things of such nature; especially keeping in mind contemporaries. Around the same time Deus Ex, Diablo II, Icewind Dale, Mechwarrior IV, Max Payne, Quake III, & Rayman II were practically contemporaries.

I think there's a trend on the forum of those who grew up with quality sprite artwork (especially console spritework) disliking early 3D graphics. Others, like me, have nostalgia for early 3D (not super early for me, but late 90s to mid 2000s) so I kinda like the chunky low-poly, "ugly" graphics, and smeared textures like this.

we'll all overdose on our nostalgia because life sucks ;)

Hahahahaha yeah that's fair. People can call me a picky bitch but yeah it's pretty jarring to see how gaming magazines praising 3D games during the PS1 heyday. I think that was the time my gaming innocence gone and I realized that gaming journalism is a sham covered in bribe money and fecal matter. I can't even comprehend why everyone went gaga over Lara Croft, I was a very horny teen back then and I too consider low poly Lara is a total boner killer and yet people are smashing their head for the infamous non existent nude code. Meanwhile I was like "Woah, Chun Li and Cammy and that girl from Valis" because superior 2D sprites win!

Maybe that's why PSM magazine did what they did and hire 2D artists to draw their covers. Because they saw the monstrosity that is polygonal Lara Croft or Virtua Fighter and was like "We're not going to put this on our cover, nope, nuh uh, NEVER"

Plenty of people were sick of 2D games at that point in time and slightly more detailed SF characters wasn't enough for the improvements in gameplay and special effects.

I think our nostalgia is different? Because games like Tomb Rider has pretty stiff control and Resident Evil tank control is not for everyone. Meanwhile Street Fighter has very accurate control input that make the game fun. Even my fave game from PS1 was the 2D Rayman game.

I'm not hating all PS1 games though. I love Ridge Racer and Ace Combat. But I felt it's because combat vehicle game can be done right with 3D.
