Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

rjbuffchix: Is that Blizzard.com version DRM-free, or is it like you say and "nothings changed"? I will happily wait for it to arrive here, DRM-free, thanks.

M3troid: The only "DRM" is a cd key.
Not ideal, but I guess I assumed their DRM was more heavyhanded. Still inclined to wait for it here but thanks for the correction.

.Ra: Diablo is selling really well here, also notice the wording on Blizzard's faqs. There is no straight no, no announcements at this time usually means a huge possibility later on.
Yes, it's fascinating how good it sells but then again we were expecting it for too long and it seemed like a mission impossible to bring it here so i'm only somewhat surprised. :p

12 days since the release and already holds #85 spot of all-time bestselling games on GOG. Climbing up the ladder like a boss. We can only imagine the amount of copies they will sell in 1 year. With Diablo 2 i bet they will push the boundaries even more. >:D
I know that they have only confirmed Warcraft 1 & 2 and that they already sell Diablo 2 & 3 in other sites, that Blizzard even posted that there are no plans for further Diablo games on GOG... But if you mouse over the "STORE" menu, they list the game as "Diablo 1", not just "Diablo" (which is technically the right name). A slip of the mind?

They say in faqs: "No further plans AT THIS TIME". At this time, surely doesn't mean, or equal to, "never"; so never say never!
So I noticed the game lacks the Normal Nightmare and Hell difficulties, is GoG planning on patching that into the game? It has been quite some time so I do not remember exactly how it goes with the difficulties. I just beat the game and no access to Nightmare yet

As far as i remember officially you can only get the higher difficulty in the multiplayer of diablo 1 , hellfire added difficulty modes for single player mode in diablo 1 . There was also a hack to get the higher difficulty i think in single player

Normal difficulty is the only difficulty accessible in the original game if the hero is in singleplayer. Multiplayer heroes must grow in power if they wish to start/join a game in the harder difficulties.
Has this gotten more replies then any other release thread ever?

I'd have to agree with that, at least they didn't close the door on that option. Time will tell I guess, hopefully alot less time than it took to release Diablo 1 lol.

Most likely, I never saw a thread explode like this. almost 1000 posts and 50 pages.

It's fun to see it rise on such a short period! And that even without a sale! :-P

There was a thread that won't be beaten by any game, I guess. Unless it's The Neverhood (one can dream) :-)
