Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

.Ra: Amazing news! Never expected this. Also nice to see warcraft coming, I really hope they can bring Diablo 2 and Starcraft with broodwar.
In that entire article I didn't see any mention of warcraft. What other games are coming? Diablo 2?

Currently, only Warcraft 1+2 are confirmed.

Q: Are other classic Blizzard games coming to GOG.COM?
A: Yes! We have announced that we’re partnering with GOG.COM to release Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II. We’ll reveal more information at a later date.

Seriously, it takes real dedication and determination to take extremely positive news and find a way to interpret it negatively.

Consider the masses of recent let downs, Diablo is a HUGE improvement.

Grargar: You mean the game that Blizzard is co-developing and promoting, neither of which was true for Hellfire?
Hellfire was actually released by Sierra games. Blizzard had nothing to do with Hellfire, except givng permission (in exchange for a share of the profits, no doubt) for the studio to do it.
I don't think Blizzard ever had the rights to Hellfire. I wonder why they never produced a official add on...I guess they preffered to concentrate their efforst on Diablo 2.

I know who was responsible for Hellfire, just as I know that Sierra was absorbed by Activision and they in turn merged with Blizzard to form Activision-Blizzard. Now, is there a chance that Hellfire got lost somewhere during the merge because Blizzard didn't give a shit about it? Possible.

Nightmare and Hell DO NOT work on battle.net. Is there ANY indication that this is being looked into and will be fixed?

The problem has been reported by many users but there has been no response from anybody that knows anything.

Is it safe to assume that the claimed "ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net" is just false advertising?

Right now i'm feeling scammed by GOG. The product page is misleading or lying about battle.net support.

"For payment, purchase, download, installation, patching, and troubleshooting, please contact GOG directly. For technical support for logging into Battle.net, please contact Blizzard Support." (с) FAQ.

Did you tried reaching Blizzard &\or GOG support ?

Normal difficulty is the only difficulty accessible in the original game if the hero is in singleplayer. Multiplayer heroes must grow in power if they wish to start/join a game in the harder difficulties.

Barry_Woodward: Diablo is now the 131st bestselling game of all time on GOG!

It´s climbing the ladder pretty fast :)
My Diablo copy still worked fine installing on Windows 10, what difference is there between this "Remaster" and the old copy from the CD that I currently have installed.

Also would love to see an option for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, possibly with slight fixes like the ability to hotkey your groups of units, i don't mind the only 4 units selected at once but a quick ability to hotkey and switch between them would be awesome, still one of my favorite games.

So if you're happy with your own copy, you may not need this version. Here's the details from the description: "Travelers looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.
For those wanting something a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support via aspect ratio-correct upscaling. "

My take is the GOG version is for those who don't already own a legal copy or want the compability/GOG's support.

Thrivingg: Spending 10 bucks on this and it's not even a full version game. . . Only has 1 out of 3 game modes not to mention it did not come with Hellfire(expansion), which isn't much of a big deal. They should've atleast released all 3 game mode (Normal/Nightmare/Hell) sense that is actually part of the original release of the game. Cmon

Crisco1492: You're misremembering things. Single player in vanilla Diablo was always only one difficulty mode (link). Multiplayer had multiple difficulty modes.
I am darn sure it did. If it did not it did shortly after with a patch. Not to mention when you play multiplayer you do not get the full experience not to mention certain Unique gear based off the questline in the game. Like Leoric's crown/Butcher's cleaver/Arkaine's Valor etc. You don't get the quests on Multi. So what the point to run through normal maz out pretty much at level 19-22 and not beable to even get the full experience of level 50 with normal/nightmare/hell. Just sayin.
