Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

chevkoch: Right, maybe D1 would scratch the itch... but then, since Diablo dropped here I've been thinking about the grand old time I've had with my Necromancer build in D2. Must. Not. Install. I need to step outside I guess, look at trees and birds and shit to ground myself again. Jesus.

Robette: You do realize that Median XL Sigma is out? Best Diablo 2 mod in existence.?! :D
Thanks, oh my god. Took a brief, timid look at the feature list on that cursed page and almost needed my burly neighbour to kick in my front door and yank the computer plug out from the wall to save me from a couple of years lost spent in the tasty oblivion that mod promises to be.

Kassad666: ...People will feel ripped off because they just bought the 90's version on GoG and now have to get the remaster as well, which will be of course much player-friendly than this one.

And Blizzard will be laughing because they are making some profit of this version, but are not the one who ripped off the D1 fans. They had a reason for not putting it on their own store, and you (and GoG) took the bait.
People who bought it here and had / will have another hundreds of great fun will be definitely very disappointed…

Either you like Diablo or not, it is all...

brogan84: Yeah, that's great... except I'm on a Mac, so I still cant play it. Super -_-
Back in the days the original version of Diablo for Mac was for a PowerPC architecture.
Since then, Apple has changed the architecture of Macs to x86 (and according to rumors they plans to do it again, only this time to switch from x86 to ARM), and therefore the original Mac version cannot technically be launched in any other way now (except in a virtual machine with old Mac OS inside).
Apple always thinks different. THINK INSTEAD OF YOU. And so there are only two options - you will accept that Apple will continue to do so or you change the platform and you start thinking for yourself.

GOG has already done a miracle by bringing Diablo here (It didn’t do without bloody sacrifices and a soulstone).
But what you demand... That was made impossible by the guys from Apple.

Let's not revisit the platform wars for the millionth time.

It's also an invalid argument. Starcraft runs on modern Macs just fine, and it was released in 1999, when not only were Macs using PPC, they were running a completely different OS (pre-OS X). It's 100% possible for Blizzard to release a modern Mac port of Diablo if they feel like it. Not to mention I see complaint after complaint of older games not running on Windows 10, so Windows is far from immune to changes that break old stuff.

please remove dupeing and also when joining nm games bnet doesnt update character lv so even though im lv 30 it shows in chat im lv 1. friendly fire would be nice axadental pking is an issue. duping (drop item set back and drop potion as soon as u pick up item to copy it) if you want to go farther hellfire expansion is a must with the monk and bonus levels

Kassad666: Now I'm 99% sure Blizzard will remaster D1 (in a D1/2 remastered bundle?). Blizzard is making profit on this old version it's not much but every extra profit is fine.

You might think: "Why isn't Blizzard releasing it by themself?"

Answer is simple. GoG will get the blame when D1 remaster is released. People will feel ripped off because they just bought the 90's version on GoG and now have to get the remaster as well, which will be of course much player-friendly than this one.

Spending 10 bucks on this and it's not even a full version game. . . Only has 1 out of 3 game modes not to mention it did not come with Hellfire(expansion), which isn't much of a big deal. They should've atleast released all 3 game mode (Normal/Nightmare/Hell) sense that is actually part of the original release of the game. Cmon

You're misremembering things. Single player in vanilla Diablo was always only one difficulty mode (link). Multiplayer had multiple difficulty modes.

Single player has no nightmare of hell mode. Multiplayer allows for that and the expansion if I recall. you can look it up and it seems that is the case. what we got was the original without anything cut out of the single player story and plus we can do multiplayer so win win for us.

and the expansion is a very touchy subject. Developed by Synergistic Software, a Sierra division, and published by Sierra On-Lineeven. I personally don't consider them official at all, even the Starcraft ones.

And most importantly, no soundtrack extra. 50% of what Diablo 1 had been, was dat soundtrack!

But yeah. Absence of Hellfire, is what stayed my hand for the time being, mostly... For me, GOG's policies of offering "complete editions" of a game and "uncensored versions" of games, are indisputable... I can deal with unfair pricing, but not without complete package.

SHUT. UP. AND. TAKE. MY. MONEY.

I never thought this game would see release again after Blizzard removed it from the Diablo Battle Chest. This is an instabuy.

I've read through the 17 pages of comments on this release. I think everyone is getting a little too excited about Starcraft and Diablo II coming to GOG. Blizzard's own app supports those quite well. Also, as much as I would love to experience the Hellfire expansion for Diablo, I can understand that with its complicated history, we may never see a sanctioned rerelease of it ever.

Eh, I wouldn´t hold my breath for it, it just might appear later on ;)
If System Shock 2 and Diablo made it here, nothing is impossible.

Yea, but in some forum conversation someone mentioned how Sierra was bought by another company which then went under and was bought by Activision respectively, so Activision might even hold the rights to Hellfire. Maybe Nightdive gets to buy it. :D
Maybe the rights to Hellfire are all well and fine and Blizzard just doesn't want to be associated with a product they didn't develop.
