Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

Jeremy_Wilson: both versions look the same. am i missing something?
They aren't going too look much different (it's not like the game was remastered) but I think you can apply mods for stuff like widescreen and HD? https://www.gog.com/forum/diablo#1552184052

Klumpen0815: Now that the impulse buyers are through, can we get it for a proper price in a sale?
It's just way too expensive. I'd only consider paying that if it had become multi-platform, true HD and with Hellfire included.

I got this game 18 years ago already for 2€ in a magazine.

Don't get me wrong, it's great, but way overpriced.
Consider for a moment that maybe that copy you bought back then was underpriced. :P

I mean, I can see your point, but the game seems to be selling like hotcakes, and when a service or product sells well, then the price is either too low or "just right".
Very very cool. But that said, I'd be wwaayy more into being able to buy the original StarCraft here than buying Diablo.
Finally one of the big players has seen sense. Thanks Blizzard for not seeing Gog as 'The Enemy'. The same way as you could argue indie games developers favour steam this is the place for old games.I hope it sells well and works out prosperous for both. The truth is anybody who is anybody who's into old retro pc gaming knows about gog and trusts it implicitly. I sincerely hope Sony [psygnosis], Capcom [resident evil], Konami [silent hill] and EA [westwood pigs may fly] see the light.

Hoop: EA [westwood pigs may fly] see the light.
You know EA has some games, including Westwood games, here, right?
Awesome GOG! ...
Waiting for the expansion.

EA has around 50 games on Gog, in fact.

Yes, but I mean, they only seem to have included this community fix
http://www.strangebytes.com/index.php/projects/1-diablo-1-windows-7-vista-patch=60
and made an installer, that's well paid then.

Both Remastered Bioshocks were 5€ at launch each with the classic version included as well.

How's that much different than GOG just using DOSBox and charging $6 for games then? I don't recall seeing you frustrated at that (I may be wrong). Are they misinforming people by saying they've included "a host of bug fixes", in your view?

I could only really answer that if I knew how much GOG gives back to the DosBox and ScummVM project, but in general, yes, they are usually too expensive here, especially since the linux packages often don't work for me and I have to use my own DosBox/ScummVM anyway.

But I realize, that the market for such games is small, which means fewer copies sold, which in turn probably means higher prices for the individual buyer to keep the shop running.

Ubaegmk: Without Hellfire though.
hellfire expation wasnt done by the orginal diablo 1 and 2 team complelty diffrent compony owns. its going to be hella hard to get the rights to the expataion. if i recall correct sierra did the expation.

but then again I WAS NOT EXPECTING a re release of diablo 1 at all

Sierra and Blizzard both belong to Activision now, so that isn't the problem.

your right i for got about sierra beeing owned by them now. it may still happen. diablo 2 and diablo lod on bliz are both 1o bucks. be sweet if they do release hellfire. i never got to play diablo one as a kid with hellfire, i did how ever play diablo 1 and i would love to play the expation. hopefully they do release it.

honestly tho in my opionon it be realy stupid of gog not to release hellfire as well with how many seem to have bought diablo 1 from gog my self as well didnt even blink twice :D id be more than happy to buy hellfire from gog

Do you buy here because of DRM-free? Because obviously Steam has far greater Linux support.

I seriously doubt it was GOG holding back a release of "Hellfire" (unless there were technical issues they couldn't fix, but I doubt that) because more content people want = more sales = more money for them. From what little I've read on the forum, allegedly Blizzard had or has serious issues with the expansion. (Lore or differences from Diablo 1 they didnt like or something like that. Someone much more knowledgeable can explain.)

edit: oh and Diablo made it to page 4 of all-time Bestselling. :)
