Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

Barry_Woodward: If Diablo makes it to the first page of GOG's bestselling games, maybe even number one, just think of the opportunities that could open up. Right now the deal with Blizzard might be for Diablo, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness with Beyond The Dark Portal expansion, but if this one release brings them so much profit so quickly, and the other two confirmed releases follow suit, they might be willing to go further.
Not to mention other big dev studios or publishers more willing to enter a similar partnership in regards to their older intellectual properties and franchises. Especially the ones that couldn't be convinced to release DRM-free on GoG until now.

I wonder if sales really matter in this case though. Considering the size of Activision Blizzard, I'm pretty sure this is pretty much pocket change, no matter how good it sells here. I think what they really where aiming for was some positive publicity and some goodwill with the community.
As I wrote in my first post already, I already had libsdl2-2.0-0 and libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 installed.
And as you can see, the post you linked to Volgarr was made by myself, I fixed that later.

You don't need to react to my posts anymore, thanks.

kustridaren: Was wondering is there a possibel for gog/ Blizzard will release Diablo in other languages too? or is there a licencing issue with the other languages?
avatar
Klumpen0815: There were translations?
Afaik at least there never was a German version since I only ever saw the American one.
It seems to be translated atleast into swedish.
The Swedish translation
A Swedish translation has been made by Diablo, but only for the PlayStation version. It was produced by Electronic Arts Nordic

Found it:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/libsdl2-ttf-2.0-0

Now it's complaining about libSDL2_mixer-2.0.so.0
which according to https://packages.ubuntu.com is in an older library package than the one I have installed. -.-

Ahh, the Playstation version. That's a different can of worms.

rmaxwell: The one caveat is that for using Battlenet via the classic version, you MUST port forward UDP 6112 through your router.
You may not be able to create or join battlenet games otherwise. You will recieve an error message if it is not properly configured. After this minor change, you should no longer get the "unable to connect" error that appears when trying to use Battlenet.
You don't necessarily have to. A lot of people (myself included) haven't opened any ports and are playing just fine.

Diablo is the game that taught me when humble defenseless people are attacked and threatened with extinction by untold evil, and depend on you for their lives and for the lives and future of all mankind, they will still see fit to charge you for fucking EVERYTHING, and not even attempt to cut you a deal or offer even the slightest discount on equipment and repairs!

:D

NOTE: this is a silly post meant as a joke. Let's not try to make anything social or political out of it please! Thank you. :D

Nice release, heres hoping other classics like Warcraft 1,2 and 3 and StarCraft make it here.
Yay,

thanks for releasing the game and for the quick response to the problems with players had with CD detection error (wasn't fortunately affected).

About something else: Theme Park needs a bugfix patch!

Hope there is a way you can see that Theme Park is being fixed finally.
The game crashes way too often and also has some bugs, which need to be fixed (EA did not se the need to fix it in the whole time).

Thanks!

Funny thing, for it taught me that there is no greater evil than hero-wannabes, lulled to believe they are fighting for a good cause!
I don't wanna read through all 600+ comments, but does this include the expansion, or no?

Aawww that's sad, but thank you for the reply =) I miss my Diablo 1 for PS1 that had the expansion. The monk was so fun. XD
