Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.
If Diablo makes it to the first page of GOG's bestselling games, maybe even number one, just think of the opportunities that could open up. Right now the deal with Blizzard might be for Diablo, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness with Beyond The Dark Portal expansion, but if this one release brings them so much profit so quickly, and the other two confirmed releases follow suit, they might be willing to go further.

Perhaps they'll release games here they already sell on their client like Diablo II with Lord Of Destruction expansion, StarCraft with Brood War expansion (the free original plus paid remaster) and Warcraft III: Reign Of Chaos with The Frozen Throne expansion. If those do well, they might go even further with StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty with Heart Of The Swarm, Legacy Of The Void, Nova Covert Ops expansions and Diablo III with Reaper Of Souls, Rise Of The Necromancer expansions all stripped of DRM.

Maybe whatever is getting in the way of the Hellfire expansion releasing can be worked out. The first installment of The Lost Vikings is available for free on Battle.net, so perhaps GOG can sell The Lost Vikings 2 here and include the original as a bonus. Rock N' Roll Racing is free on Battle.net, so perhaps GOG can sell RPM Racing here and include Rock N' Roll Racing as a bonus. They could make Blackthorne and Warcraft Adventures: Lord Of The Clans bonuses with the purchase of upcoming Blizzard games.

I get a bad day that keeps me away from GOG for about 24 hours, and this happens?...

Anybody that knows the history of Hellfire, would understand why the expansion isn't here, and will never see the light of day, at least as long as Blizzard has anything to say about it.

I'll gladly be making my purchase once I get home. Congratulations GOG, and thank you Blizzard. I'll surely be getting Warcraft 1&2 once it gets a GOG release.

Hopefully we also get Lost Vikings, another one of the games I played growing up. I'd also really want to play Lost Vikings 2, but the SNES version with proper gorgeous 2D sprites, and not the PC version with it's awful 3D models. A man can dream.

And let's not forget Blackthorne. (it's free on Battle.net but it would be nice to have it here too)

What does this mean?

For those wanting something a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support via aspect ratio-correct upscaling.

Has anyone a screenshot?

Yeah I wish I knew what it meant too. I've been clicking on both the "Classic" and the "New" game start options and no matter which I choose, the both look the exact same to me. And even when I make changes under "settings" option... clicking either results in both looking the exact same.

As far as bug fixes... I haven't gotten far enough along to know and in fact have no idea what "fixes" were supposed to be addressed. I do know the one nice little addition of Hellfire that I liked isn't included.. (ability to make the character jog in town so it doesn't take as long to get from place to place).

While we're on the topic, does anyone have any idea how much money a game would need to make to reach Page 1?

You are describing what is basically the emptying of my wallet. Even better, my 940MX can run pretty much all of those.

What do I do with that package? I can't find the file inside and every compiling attempt I made in Mint in the past has failed miserable, so I stopped trying.

Calm down there Barry. Don't die of a nerdgasm just yet... Let's see how things start to go first. :P
