Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

Diablo and soon to come Warcraft I & II. What the community has wanted for so long. I can't think of another old game I was hoping for like these three. (Except Diablo II.) It is pretty much the final block in GOG's solid foundation.

You know, I’ve never played a Diablo game before. I even have Diablo II, the expansion and Diablo III with all expansions, but without playing the first I decided to just backlog the others. With GOG and Blizzard bringing the original here I now have the chance to play these games in order! Thank you!

And Diablo is just the first of the classic titles to come?! Warcraft?! Starcraft?!? :D

There, corrected that part for ya GOG :P

Sad jokes aside, i have mixed feelings about bringing these old classics from the fallen developer here on GOG, not because they are bad or anything, much the contrary, it is just that the bad taste of what has been happening with their newer games and themselves is very strong in my mouth still... i am not supporting those that do things i consider anti-consumer and/or immoral in my views.

I think there is a chance for Diablo 2, but with StarCraft - it makes no sense. The game is free on Battle.net.

Now this is a surprise... I had the impression Activition/Blizzard would milk and remilk their franchises Forever. Maybe the 'classics' are in their opinion on the death bed, namely they are unlikely to get 1 million from said sales by putting on steam or GoG. But... an easy 1 million with almost no effort...

Wow, this is truly "good news" Thank you so much GOG I have not been this shocked by a release here for a long time and its really great to have that good feeling back about you guys after so much recent negativity. Now can't wait for Warcraft 1 & 2 as I lost my discs to those long ago.

i assume because Blizzard is hurting bad and gog did all the real work to get it working

Hellfire is not coming to gog. Blizzard confirmed that for now. The expansions was not owned by Blizzard but by Sierra.
