Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

lukaszthegreat: its hard to get the licences. GOG would love to release all of those classics but if the right holders don't allow nothing can be done.

DavidOrion93: Somebody pinch me and tell me it's not an early April's fool joke?
I thought it would be a cold day in hell before Blizzard will release anything here.
Yeah someone's been bleeding the blizzard

(edit: I just couldn't help that one XD)

That's how I feel MOST of the time at the PC.

Oww... My Foot keeps swelling up.

gamesfreak64: same here .... Blizz is one of the many that love DRM , although it looks like EA is the largest DRM hugger :D
and Bigfishgames is the number one DRM huggers for casualgames ( wrappers, install client and maybe more)

jakandratchet: The online only requirement for diablo 3 is the reason I've never played it.
online only requirement for diablo 3 ?
you mean it needs to check online and needs active internet ? or is it online play only?

i removed the game ...good riddance ,its gone in digital nowhere :D
this is another sad experience i learned from , next time i see a much wanted classic game i will wait , very long time :D
maybe get it one day at 1 euro :D joined 2014 bought lots of games , 2nd, 3rd year less until today ...
i also bought less games on Steam and Gamersgate ... think i rather burry or wipe my behind with my cash then spend it and be sorry later, having to spend hours looking for patches to get a paid for game to work...
Anyway i learned from it ...so in a way it was helpfull.... :D level up for me :D
I would love to see Warcraft II and Starcraft come to GOG.

I might get Diablo when it's on sale for like $5. I just want to kill the Butcher again.

fr33kSh0w2012: I have it on CD also I have Diablo II battle chest on Disc as well. So Meh, Would be a good backup to have if anything happened to the disc bought the discs brand new for only $7.99, So don't know why you want around AUD $14 for the same thing.

Robin_Seina: It is a shame, that there will be no Hellfire or Diablo II.
avatar
fr33kSh0w2012: Sadface 8(
GOG may someday get the rights to Hellfire (it's released many other Sierra On-Line games), and as for Diablo II, enter your CD key on Blizzard's Battlenet service and it will be added to your game library there, where you can download and play it as often as you'd like.
Anyone else that purchased this having problems with battle.net? None of the text displays so I have no idea what I'm supposed to enter anywhere to create an account so I can play multiplayer online.

Not only that but it needs to be a good connection.

As bad as a client is, I can still play a game off one because typically all you need to do is just be connected; it doesn't need to be solid or fast. With D3 if you connection slows down, so does the game, and yes, that's SP.

I'm on satellite internet. It's not happening.
It's been a while since I jumped this fast on a game. Saw the advert on Facebook and nearly knocked everything off my desk lol

Robin_Seina: Battle.net news only mentions Warcraft I and II
avatar
fr33kSh0w2012: I'm praying it is the complete set including the expansions.
Maybe it'll be the 1997 re-release of Warcraft II, called Warcraft II: Battlenet Edition, which included the Battlenet client plus all the expansions.

Nah It sends a MOTD to blizzard servers no MOTD means you can't play.

You do know that Blizzard is giving away the classic version of StarCraft for free, do you?

tfishell: If somebody has time, could you see what page number Diablo is on under the "Bestselling (All Time)" arrangment of the catalog?
avatar
frost0: It's on page 13, going towards 12.
Solid, thanks. I think it'll get onto the first or second page pretty quickly, like Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines.
This game is, as of this posting, #547 (on page 12 of 62) in GOG's entire catalogue when sorted by "Bestselling (all time)". (Even if "all time" still just means "about the last twelve months" -- as I remember a Blue stating a few years ago -- that's still pretty damn impressive for a game that's been here for less than a day, in a catalogue of several thousand games.)

Heh, I didn't even see this post before I made my "report". =D
