Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.
Looking at the Battle.net shop and Blizzard's list of upcoming modernisations of their games and comparing to the list of all games they have made one can try to guess what else will come here. Diablo II seems to be no chance in hell.

WIth help from this nice community here (GOG customers) I got this game installed from a 2nd hand cd on my Linux laptop and yet, I only see Windows installer now.

The game is alright in my opinion but not super duper good compared to many newer titles 3½ * * *
What happened to the Mac version?

Well, Diablo 2 were a lot more popular so maybe Blizzard is keeping it. That said, many didn’t believe Blizzard would ever have a contract with GOG on anything what so ever either so at least now there's hope for other Blizzard games.

If enough people buy Diablo 1 there's even a bigger chance the other games would eventually come here, and we know how much Blizzard loves money these days :P

Did not see this coming. I still have the big box version in my cellar somewhere, but I haven't had a cd drive for years, so I might very well buy this at some point since you can't link your cd key on battle.net which I always thought was a big shame.
Incredible. I didn't think this would ever happen. I don't know how you guys convinced Blizzard to release this here instead of Battle.net, but I'm very impressed. Well done, GOG.

I'm always around, just lurking.

Hi Licurg. :D

Licurg might be the first person who ever posted to me in here, so you all have him to blame. If he'd kept quiet I would have gotten bored and left, never to return and become the legendary troll I am today.

Nice, didn't expect this one at all.
I still remember playing Warcraft 2 and Lost Vikings as a kid.
And Starcraft: Brood War and Diablo 2 were some of my major sources of inspiration during teenage years. I still have many sketches of space marines fighting zerg-like xenos, and protoss-like psionic aliens.

I also once got in trouble in school, because I refused to show my teacher what I was doing while she left the classrom for a few minutes. Well, I don't think she'd be happy to see my design for a Demonologist class for Diablo 2, with three skill trees and stuff...

However, I think I never had much opportunity to play Diablo 1. Will have to catch up :D
