Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.
This is incredible.

Never thought they would ever add Diablo.

10/10 GOG!
Joining the congratulating choir :)
Well done, GOG!
wake me up in 20 years, when we will get D2
Holy crap! This is proof that GOG is going to be just fine.

Can we expect Hellfire to be added on at some point?
Oh I missed the goodies list at the bottom of the page. However https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/03/original-diablo-is-now-on-sale-for-10-drm-free-but-not-on-blizzards-app/ says there's supposed to be a soundtrack goodie? "GOG's version comes with a few goodies, including FLAC and MP3 versions of the original soundtrack (yes) and a high-res scan of the original manual (yes)." Misreport?

Cool. Probably not going to buy myself (never was a fan of the Diablo games), but this should make many people happy, and also help Gog.
Honestly not what I expected to see this morning. I wont be buying it here as its one of those games that seriously shows it age (though I could be swayed once people weigh in on the update) but its still fantastic news. One of my all time favorites for sure. Goatmen… gotta love em. I was also intrigued to hear that WC1+2 will be coming.
Good job GoG, and thanks to Blizzard for allowing this to happen. I hope to see Warcraft 1 and 2 w/ expansions here soon too. Instant buy.
I don't care that much about Hellfire, it added items & classes, but the levels and monsters did not suit well for me. I did not like that you had to go to hive after some period of time, and then level up some more, and then you go to crypt. So it inserted some levels between original ones. Weird. Also, monsters sucked.

Now because of Diablo HD mod you would not even want to play with Hellfire, because it works only with vanilla.

Cheers GOG.
Now I did not expect this today...

Well done GOG.
I always preferred 2, but it's awesome to have the original here and available to buy again (this is the first time it's available digitally isn't it?)

1 leads to 2.
played this for 20 minutes, trying to reinstall 2 right now.

Not having much luck

To be fair when I played them as a kid they absolutely f*cking terrified me, probably because when you died you had to run back to get your corpse (in 2 anyway, I can't remember 1 as well) so I mostly watched my brother playing, especially the first one.

But I preferred the classes from 2 as I've always liked a good RPG class. If 2 comes here I'll have to pick it up, I believe I already have Starcraft for free from Blizzard somewhere...

Btw i've posted a guide here on how to get the retail version of Hellfire running under GOG's version of Diablo.

Utuzuu: GOG did the impossible once again. I never thought Blizzard would come to GOG, considering their past behaviour regarding DRM.

Praise GOG.

Btw, on the GErman Forum people are complaining just for the sake of it. What a grumpy people we Germans are.

Elmofongo: Schisse.

What's the complaint?
There is some technical - but ultimately minor complaint - about resolution or something. Also somebody pointed out that GOG mixed up VGA and SVGA in their description. (Don't know this is accurate and I don't care.) Aaand there is this one guy who pointed out that Diablo 1 never had DRM and he is mad, because there are still DRM free retail versions on eBay. I also do not know if this is accurate or not, but why exactly he gets mad about the fact that Diablo 1 never had DRM coupled with the fact that it is now being released DRM free on GOG is beyond me. There is only a certain amount of anger and negativity before it gets unreasonable and holy shit, they appear the be about to launch a punitive expedition into Poland...

...You know, instead of appreciating the fact, that a) EFFING BLIZZARD HAS COME TO GOG and that b) they get the original version of the game AND an updated version in one bundle. Oh, and a German localization, which was only available on Playstation beforehand, it seems, but screw that, right?

The German psyche is incapable of feeling contentment and satisfaction. It seems almost as if god has put the Germans on this earth for the sole purpose of generating conflict. There is only war, and we are apparently blessed by Khorne. This must be what it feels like living in a Stellaris empire with pops with the quarrelsome trait.
