Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

wolfsite: Some people are talking about this in the Diablo sub forum here on GOG so you may get more info there.
Thanks, I constantly forget that sub forums exist here.
Wow no fooling?

Next, The Lost Vikings 1 and 2!!
I still remember coming across the diablo 1 demo by mistake on pc magazine cd , its simple gameplay lured me until i faced the butcher and got butchered ....it took some to master the demo
Wow, probably one of the last games I expected to appear here. Well done GOG.

BleepBl00p: It feels weird seeing people give it 5 star or 10/10 when Diablo 2 exists and improves pretty much everything about it.

mqstout: Diablo 2 does not improve everything. The ambiance, feel, pacing, "slag fest" and hopelessness -- that is, the FEELING -- of Diablo 1 is vastly superior. (Not to say ill of Diablo 2, which was -- is -- a great game, and only recently been surpassed by Grim Dawn as the best game in the genre.)
I mean the series is an action focused hack n slash so the atmosphere isn't what matters most. It's like comparing Call of Duty based on the story.

Regardless, D1 can't be 10/10 if D2 improves it so much. It's a bit misleading for potential customers, it could make them lose confidence in old games and reviews.
Vow, its all I can say right now!!!!!!!

Thanks gog and especially Blizzard!!!!!!!

Warcraft 1+2 and Starcraft 1 next please.
I got so surprised that I actually gasped when I saw a Blizzard game at GOG.

Hell, it's about time.

well, it's still subjective - I myself play the first Diablo from time to time ever since is was released... and while I played the heck out of Diablo II, I still like D1 better... D1=10/10, D2=9/10 :)

MartiusR: While I'm more excited about the same fact of releasing Blizzard's game on GOG (and that first Warcraft games are coming) than about Diablo's release itsellf, I've got to admit - it was the only game in the series I've ever finished (I was bored with D2 and never feeled necessity to try D3).

I'm a bit sceptical about first Starcraft release (original version/Remastered - doesn't matter) though - for me it seems like Blizzard figured out that titles which they're not planning to "remaster" would be a good option to release somewhere "outside" their platform - so while Warcraft 1 & 2 (maybe Lost Vikings and other "oldies" also?) seems to be quite obvious (but still welcomed!) addition, I'm not convinced about chances for Starcraft.
There was an Ars Technica article last night or this morning where Blizzard's public statement was that the big issue for them is how compatible the code is with the Blizzard Launcher. I'm not enough of a programmer to know if that's a fundamental issue or a question of ROI in what it would take to make it compatible vs. releasing it through a 3rd party storefront like GOG.

With Diablo, it was not, so they said made sense to let GOG do the work to get it ready to release as a standalone. They seemed to be implying that Warcraft I / II are in the pipeline as well.

SpecShadow: Postin in legendary thread.
One of the oldests entries in GOG wishlist I believe...
My old CD is long gone and not working, having it digitally solves headaches.

Guess it's time to make a stickie in the game thread with available mods.
Thats bad, however the good old paper manuals are the most important, cd/dvd can be 'repalced' by digital , but manuals ... thats why prefer a paper manual , makes it easier to read while gaming, digital requires either alt tabbing , to show the manual, you can use the pdf on a mobile/ or pad or show it on the 2nd screen if you have one, paper is the best imo.

Posting just to say that I was here when it happened :D

Great job GOG. Hoping for Warcraft series, Lost Vikings, Blackthorne and of course Diablo 2 with the expansion packs.

Isn't this just a half-baked release without the expansion ?

Actually it is objective, movement in D2 is a lot more fluid and accurate. D2 has more classes, more skills, more loot/items, more monsters, more bosses, more environments of higher detail, more NPCs, more character customization, more secrets, more quests, etc...
And here I recently swore off ever buying a blizzard game again.
I'll have to think about this stance some more now, I mean an old game should still be ok, right?

Either way amazing work by GOG managing to this.
