Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

elcook: It's the base game, without the expansion. We have no information about Hellfire at this time.

Hellfire was only ever a quasi-official expansion, in fact I do believe Blizz said it was non-canon.

Nice, very nice surprise. I still have my CD-ROM, but always wanted a digital backup. What about Warcraft 1 and 2 (and expansion) in the future, considering both titles aren't available digitally yet?

Hm, I never played Diablo beyond the demo. Maybe it's time I changed that.

Excellent! And to think that many were immensely negative that it would ever come here since Blizzard still had their own "shop".

Yes, this means insta-buy :D

BTW: Hellfire can be found at archive.org (don't think archive is considered illegal here, but I might be wrong)

that's a surprise. blackthorne and the lost vikings shouldn't be a problem now, the former is (was?) free anyway.

Impaler26: Too bad that the Hellfire expansion is not included in this version. That would make it worth the asking price but €8.89 just for the base game is a bit steep.
Is it though? I mean, it's a quality game and quality usually doesn't degrade over time. I would rather pay 8.89€ for an excellent game than 5€ for a mediocre one.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I just purchased this and there doesn't seem to be any widescreen support in case anyone was wondering, it's still the same 620x480 view window but stretched and with vertical black bars, the resolution options just seem to be a way to correct scale the game on your monitor. Unless I'm doing something wrong...

Zeewolf: And to those who say it's not fun to play any more, wrong! I completed it a couple of years back, basically twice because my character was overwhelmed in one of the last levels and I had to restart, and I had tons of fun.
It feels weird seeing people give it 5 star or 10/10 when Diablo 2 exists and improves pretty much everything about it.

The gameplay is very clunky compared to pretty much any hack n slash game released after it.

I read that you're working on releasing WC1 & 2 too, unbelievable.

Can we expect to get Blackthorne & The Lost Vikings too?

Maybe even Diablo 2 and Starcraft with Broodwar!

ok, according to Blizzard's website the Hellfire datadisc isn't planned (probably because they don't own the rights?)

good news is - Warcraft and Warcraft II are also coming!!! :D

MMLN: IIRC Hellfire was an official expansion made by Sierra, which is now part of Activision as well. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yup, I looked for it on wikipedia. It's definitelly Sierra, so there is still a chance :)
