Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

gog2002x: Can I download just the files from there and installed w/o battle.net or does it need to be installed through battle.net?

paladin181: When I got it, I didn't have to install battle.net. it has a downloader, and if you stop the installation after download you should be able to save a copy of the install files. I'd Google how to save the install files for Diablo 2. It used to work, cause I still have mine, so I'm not sure if it still does.

Well it took a few months, but I finally bought Diablo 2 + LOD off Blizzard site and you were right, I only had the DL the files all w/o Bnet. It downlods as version 1.14b, though I think if you connect to Bnet, it'll update to 1.14d and I don't think you need to log in. I didn't try it, I'm ok w/ ver. 1.14b which installs and works fine w/o any internet connection.

But a few days ago, I ended up trying Plugy for Diablo 2 and wow I don't think I can go back to vanilla D2 + LOD anymore lol. Unlimited personal stash and unlimted shared rules! No more selling for gold things my other chars can use lol. It also enables all runewords, even ladder only ones, crazy. 0_0

If Diablo 2 + LOD comes to GOG, I'll buy it again (*hint* *hint* Blizzard...)

I'm also glad Diablo + Hellfire is climbing up that list, it's a fun game that brought alot of memories, though I think I can only play in small doses these days. =)

It is in the 16th spot. Sooo... other Blizzard classic when?
DII and LoD would be great candidate, looking at speed of our little D1 minigame.
W3 and FT? Probably also, if it would be only vanilla un-reforged version.

Hopefully GOG pounced on the Reforged controversy to try to bring the original Warcraft 3, at least; I'm doubtful Blizzard will budge but who knows!

tbh I wouldn't even mind seeing Reforged here personally but I doubt it would sell well enough to bother and there'd be too much controversy. But if we got both Reforged and the original W3+expansion, even as a bundle, I think that'd be worth it. (granted people would hate the fact it was bundled, probably at a $40 price tag, but they could wait for a sale.)

I'd still like to see Starcraft + Broodwars here somehow.

About two months later, Diablo climbs yet another rank and sits at 15th bestselling ever on GOG after surpassing RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe.

With the one year anniversary of the digital re-release through GoG coming up next week I wonder what the chances are for Diablo 2 + LoD being made available here as well, on March the 6th, for example.
Diablo + Hellfire must have turned a relatively considerable profit maybe having made Blizzard more inclined to let Diablo 2 + LoD run DRM-free too? They surely could use some positive PR right now.

Thanks for "Fixing" the duping ability..... thanks... a lot.... now it's a stupid game as that was the only compensation for no refresh of monsters to kill.... wow you rock....not
