Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.
Does anyone know how many dedicated users (buying customers) GOG has? At the end of 2017,GOG stated that they had 340 000 followers on Facebook: https://www.gog.com/news/2017_a_year_in_review

If every GOG-user with a Facebook account is following GOG there, and if 2 out of 3 GOG-users have a Facebook-account, then GOG's active userbase would be around half a million.

If a quarter of all GOG-users have bought Diablo by now, that would be roughly 120 000 copies; with new customers coming in because it's a GOG-exclusive, perhaps double that. Then 240 000 sold, so far. Ish.

Wobbly, I admit. I wouldn't bank on it ..

PaterAlf: You might be correct about Bloodlines, but I wonder if you played Stardew Valley?
avatar
paladin181: Yes, I did. I played it right when I bought it at release. The game felt unfinished and was quite boring. That and the time limits on some of the goals felt unrealistic. It also took way way waaaaaaaaaaay too long to clear a little big of land only for the seeds I bought to be unharvestable after planting due to season change.
Then the game type isn't really for you. Doing things is faster than in the Harvest Moon series for example. Stardew Valley is pretty decent, although it kinda lacks depth and the interactions and the villagers in general aren't too engaging.

I woudnt count facebook followers as an estimate over users.
There is alo a large segment or at least a pretty big group of gog Users that dont use facebook or doesnt use it much.
Its kinda hard since gog themself dont give out numbers over users.
So one can only guess.

I seam to remember that they gave out some reports on how the witcher performed and one can make a guess based on that but i cant remember where i read that.
Also, that only counts people that bougth the witcher and not people that have not have bougth it.

Edit :
If i dont remember wrong i think Steam did an anouncement when they reached speccific numbers of active users
so perhaps Gog will do something simmilar when they reach a speciffic number.

Indeed, there are variables to spare. I was tempted to conclude with a TLDR: 'Your guess is as good as mine'.

StarChan: ...
GOG probably has millions of accounts by now but I'm guessing most just registered for the free games. (opposite of the important qualifier you stated)

You estimate Diablo sales by number of GOG followers on facebook or twitter? Seriously, I recommend you also astrology, maybe divination... Diablo is GOG exclusive so not make any sense.

So far we now is that by june 2015 Witcher 3 sold 693k on GOG. Unfortunately I don´t know which position had then. Now, almost 4 years later, is 19th in bestsellers. It´s probably been a long time since reach 1000k. Diablo is currently in 49th. In conclusion, what we know is that we know nothing. But if i had to guess, I´d say 500k is likely. Or am I too optimistic and between the first 20-30 and the next 30-60 there is a huge difference?

But that's the point, isn't it. We're all guessing and chipping in with our estimates, and our guessing, for all it's worth, should be based on something more than just gut feeling, such as your own contribution here, based on Witcher 3 sales.

GOG followers on Facebook is merely a starting point for making a rudimentary assessment of a GOG userbase. Likewise, the '1/4 of GOG users' is a suggestion, nothing more, leave it at that. This is not exact sience and where in my post have I claimed that it is?

I thought we only knew that there were 693k people playing W3 on GOG Galaxy? That number may include a lot of people who got a W3 GOG code with an nVidia graphics card but didn't buy it via GOG. 500k does seem a little high to me but I can agree with that ballpark area, 100, 200, 300k.

You may be righ, 500k right now may be too optimistic, but I don´t believe that being 49th has only 100k or 200k.

It can be, it doesn´t change much since even if we assume that of these 693k like 500k were bough directly on GOG, I still believe that almost 4 years later has reached a million unit sold. And another thing, those codes aren´t counted as well in bestseller list? I mean, if we assume that list counts units and not revenue, why wouldn´t they be taken in? That is, Witcher 3 today can be bough by 1/4 of price of Witcher 3 in 2015, still is counted as the same one unit as well.

Diablo reached page 1 with spot #48 of GOG all-time best selling games. It's a long way to the top but i believe it will reach top 10 within 1 year of release.

Hehe, I just came here to post the same! :-P Diablo took a few days before SWAT4 was beaten. :-P
If they had a way to add in Hellfire, I bet it would have made the top 20 at least by now.

Now IF they released Diablo II + LOD to GOG, I can only imagine how fast it would rise on that list. Top 10 for sure!

Why does everyone want shitty Hell fire? There are free mods (the Hell, Bezelbub both are better) that blow Hellfire out of the water. And Hellfire is only slightly more official since Blizzard wants to forget they had Sierra make it.

I didn't liked "The Festering Nest" byt the Crypts and the monk Class is very good, heck i would buy Hellfire only for the Monk class.
