Last (garbage) man standing

Deponia 4: Deponia Doomsday, the new time-bending chapter in Rufus' misadventures, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount + Gomo added as a FREE bonus.

Remember when we said Goodbye Deponia and [spoiler alert] watched incredulously as Rufus nobly sacrificed himself to save the junkyard world? So does Rufus! Or at least he thinks so. Wait, how is he still alive? Could it all have been just a dream? Did Elysium really fall from the sky soon after? This is all a huge mess and there is only one way out: to travel through time with the help of the eccentric temporal scientist McChronicle and set things right. By doing about 3.2 million wrongs.

Rufus, the self-serving, juvenile, obnoxious-yet-lovable buffoon returns to Deponia Doomsday for another round of point'n'click pandemonium. He is joined by an extensive cast of quirky characters, dozens of new locations atop both Deponia and Elysium, plus his unique brand of unapologetic problem-solving. Want to save the planet(s)? Then you must make waste and recycle the Apocalypse!

Buy the game before April 14 to also get Gomo for FREE. Note that the game will not be added to your library right away but after the promo ends. Those who already own this whimsical puzzler are going to receive a gift code for the game and if for some reason that doesn't happen, you can always contact support for help.

Return to bring Deponia Doomsday before anyone else beats you to it, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last until April 14, 1:59 PM UTC

Deponia series promo
Prepare yourself for Doomsday! To celebrate Rufus' fourth coming, all previous three Deponia games are now 80% off as part of a special Deponia series promo that will last until April 14, 1:59 UTC.

moonshineshadow: Well, they might not be evil, but they are certainly assholes. And they are not going to see any money from me. The reason? When I inquired with them why many German versions are missing here while they are available on steam, I was told that they hate people asking that and that gog-ers are cheapskates and only buy the games during sales and that therefore we don't deserve better and are a reason why they'll someday not be able to make games anymore.
So, it's perfectly fine to give the game on Steam for $10 (computer magazine) on release day, but GOGgers are cheapskates for not wanting to shell out $30 (10% discount included) more than a month later. Did I get it right?

Also, quite funny that suddenly we're a big enough percentage of their customer base that we can make or break their business.

Did they really use those terms? Just WOW.

Weird. I'd think Steam has more of a discount mentality, because of bundle keys and sale predictability. Then again, Daedalic only has themselves to blame: their games are among the few which routinely get discounted 90% off.

Not exactly those terms.Direct translation of the email would be "I hate people asking me questions about the language pack. We only get around 3 euros for every of our games sold on gog since they are always bought in sales and that makes it almost impossible for us to produce more games or get our investment back. Which would not be a problem if we were producing shit-games instead of adventures".

Well, that and ignoring my real question (why the language packs are on steam but not here), told me clearly enough that I don't need to bother with them anymore.

Didn't know that the adventure genre automatically makes a game immune to being shit. One learns something every day.

Funny they whine about the money they make from GOG sales - wasn't there a Daedalic Humble Bundle where one could get most of their games for PWYW, multilingual standalone DRM-free installers and extras included?

And apparently they hate that question so much that they don't trust themselves to reply in a civilized manner, so choose to ignore it.

They also regularly give away their games on German computer magazines (which are sold in large parts of Europe, not only in Germany). Deponia 1, 2 and 3 again are given away this month. The magazine with all 3 games included costs € 6.99. As far as I remember the price difference between the editions with and without the games is about 2 or 3 Euros. So I guess they do not even get € 3 per sale, for all 3 games together, much less than they get on GOG. Blackguards 2 also is given away this month on another game magazine which costs € 5.90 including the game. You can imagine how much money they get from that sale. ;)

And they perhaps miss another essential point. Because of the delay a lot of the sales on GOG probably are not primary purchases of their games, but DRM free backup purchases from people which already own the games elsewhere or already own them on disk. People usually spend more money when they buy a game the first time, but wait for higher discounts when they buy a game the second, third or whatever time.

moonshineshadow: gog-ers are cheapskates and only buy the games during sales
What do you know, Deponia Doomsday is currently the number 1 best selling game on gog ;)
avatar
PaterAlf: Nice release, but $33 is a very steep price when you take into consideration that they gave away Steam keys for the game for $10 on release day (it was included in one of Germany's biggest computer games magazine.
And what is the problem with this? If you bought the game direct on steam you didn`t get the game for 10 Euros either. That said it is a great game and in fact worth the money.
Finally, I was waiting for this one.

Daniel_M: People seem to have this misguided notion of Daedalic being an evil company that is out to fool and take advantage of customers while, being a primarily adventure games developer/publisher, they constantly have hard time surviving in this market. It's not as if they are hoarding big sums.

-_- That's nuts. Maybe you'd get more sales if you released the German language here!

While I'd encourage people to keep a civil tongue, if you feel the need to make your voice heard, Daedalic does have contact info here: http://www.daedalic.de/en/Contact

Hi Daedalic. Nice response.

I'll wait for 90%. :)

So they rip the dub because they want me to not buy their game at full price because of it and thus being able to hate me. I see their puzzle designer is also their CFO. Budumm tsch.

Strange that this was made considering that "Goodbye Deponia" sounds like a pretty definite statement that the series is finished.

As long as you can sell it. :P

It's easier and less effort to reuse already existing game parts than to create something new from scratch. ;)
I wonder whether they made this game because a lot of people did not like the ending, or this is actually the way they planned the story from the beginning...

ShadowWulfe: So I'm just curious, did delaying the GOG release have that much of an impact on piracy?
LOL The funny thing is, the cracked, DRMed versions of games are way more pirated! Never underestimate human stupidity! :D

Here's the response I got back:

"we do support German languages on GOG. The only exceptions are The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav and Memoria. As you assumed legal issues are preventing us to provide the German version on GOG. However, I can’t get into more details. Sorry. GOG is a very important distribution channel for us. Therefore, these accusations are untrue."
