Better get ready, because Demon Lord Reincarnation is now out on GOG – and with a -10% launch discount! Hurry up, the offer ends on July 27th, 10:30 AM UTC.

Demon Lord Reincarnation is a turn-based role-playing game. It will tell you a story about how long ago, the land of Isigwere suffered under the tyranny of Leinad, the Demon Lord, and his monstrous horde. You’ll learn how the courageous band of heroes vanquished him and confined him deep underground, where a labyrinth was constructed to thwart any future escape should he rise again. Beware though, because now, the seal binding him has been shattered, and the maze is infested with monsters as the ominous specter of the Demon Lord's return looms closer. Adventurers from far and wide have assembled, united in their quest to once again vanquish the dreaded Leinad and protect the world from his malevolence; and you’re one of them.

Now on GOG!
Obligatory reminder:
Perfect opportunity to finally release Surt R./Graverobber Foundation's "Geister" trilogy as well, no?

Just purchased it, but will have to wait for later to try it out. (I did try out the original "Demon Lord", which was a game jam game.)

Also would like to see GOG announcements for:
* Ringlorn Saga Gaiden (it's been announced on that other store)
* Ringlorn Saga Book Two (mentioned in Ringlorn Saga's ending, and it's apparently planned)

Cool visuals overall -- shame about the Default JRPG/VN Text 'N' Borders Syndrome.

I'd argue that the whole "text and borders" thing started back in Wizardry, which this game clearly takes inspiration from.

Also, what alternative would you propose? (I never saw this as a problem.)

Lots of game-design conventions that started back in the '80s were arrived at mostly due to technical limitations; most of those conventions were moved on from once those limitations fell away.
I doubt the Western Wizardry games were by any means the first to use this particular convention -- it's just that those were the ones that developed a cult following in Japan, and inspired tons of later games, many of which themselves inspired later ones. At some point, it just became the default to do text like that in many Japanese games (and those inspired therefrom), but it seems to be mostly the more old-school RPGs (especially "Wizardry-likes") and some VNs and platformers that have kept with it -- and somewhat mindlessly, I'd guess.

Regarding a solution: I dunno, any of the other perfectly readable text styles that many, many other games have used? "Readable" doesn't have to mean "plain, bordering on ugly", which I would argue that this style of text is for a game. Honestly, I don't usually notice this sort of thing either, except when it draws attention to itself by being ugly (or at least clashing with the rest of the visuals), annoying to read, or blatantly imitative (like a dark fantasy RPG using the "Diablo font"). There could still, of course, be an option to have this "traditional", aesthetics-be-damned text style -- I suppose it could be seen as an accessibility feature -- but to have it as the default, let alone only, option [and, to be clear, I don't know that it is in this case] in any game where the text is both ever-present and crucial to the moment-to-moment gameplay is vexing. Not a deal-breaker by itself, but not doing the game any favors, either.

Edit before posting: Having now watched the trailer, it seems that this game is a lot cheaper and less visually original/stylish than I originally gave it credit for, and I gather it was probably made using some pre-made engine/game-maker suite, where there might not have even been very many options for different text styles. (Or there were, but the dev[s] just went with the default out of laziness and/or because "that's what all the other games [of this specific sub-sub-subtype, that I've played] use". :/ ) Carry on.

Hmm, Ringlorn Saga looked good but played really bad because of bad control scheme (having to switch around weapon types with a button was annoying and there was no visual cue what style you currently have, so you always had to look at the status screen, would have been a great game if they just gave each attack type a button instead).

I guess turn-based is harder to mess up, so I'll give the developer a second try.
Those screenshots aren't giving anything away.
Just a heads-up that the game doesn't feature any automap (since it's emulating the old RPGs from the 80s).
But it seems the levels are rather small so it's not critical.

Yup, would love to see these on GOG as well. I already have them on Steam, but I'd buy them again, such unique indie crawlers with some of my favorute soundtracks of recent years.

According to the manual (PDF in the game installation directory), there are 5 levels, and each level is 20x20. While there's no automap, you can use the "CHECK" command to get your position (as coordinates) and facing, which can be helpful when making a map or if you want to figure out where you are on that map.

(There's apparently a sort of "second quest"; I don't know if the map is the same or different.)
