Exile on pain street.

Dead in Vinland is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, 10% off until April 19, 3pm UTC.
Exiled from your village. A family disgraced. No time for despair, though. Time to roll up your sleeves and make a new home for yourselves on this strange island. Survive the hardships, manage everyday tasks, explore, interact with its curious inhabitants and face a savage foe. RPG mechanics meet non-linear storytelling in a dramatic tale shaped by your own harsh decisions.
Looks ok, not entirely sure how it works. Like the art style, much like Banner Saga. One thing that did jump out at me was the text mentioned this was part 2 in the Dead In series:

"DEAD IN VINLAND is the second installment in the “Dead In…” universe, after DEAD IN BERMUDA. The two games are standalones, but you’ll learn a bit more about the secrets behind these strange islands and the general background in each game of the series."

So the question is, where is the other one? And do you need to have played it?

Got Dead in Bermuda free on Chrono.gg, it's not here on gog and the story has nothing to do with vikings. :P

It just seems lossely linked through context and mechanics.
The trailer shows "alpha gameplay footage"?! Any other more recent trailers would be appreciated.

I do wonder about timing of the release.

Having your game come out at the same time as tBS3 pre-order can't be good. Especially when there are enough similarities between the two.

Looks interesting, but will wait for decent number of reviews myself. Games coming from developer's geographic area have too many tendencies toward often being highly impressive at a first glance only to discover the shine covers a bunch of serious issues.

The official website states that "you don’t need to play Dead In Bermuda to enjoy the story of Dead In Vinland, but it will be a good training for the core concepts of the game".

I think opposite: if you believe that there are enough similarities, then by playing this game, you can prepare yourself to the release of Banner Saga 3 (which is in June 24).

for usual and careful customers. but maybe some people coming on GOG to buy tBS3 might notice DiV that they could have otherwise missed. Survival it's not a genre I'm strong or passionate but I am curious about the adventure and exploring the island. Also, because the characters are family they can't be replaced if they die like normal troops so that might be a factor for caring about the game if the aforementioned characters are likeable and interesting enough. Also if the dialogue choices are meaningful for the gameplay, that could be another reason to make me think, if I ever want to play this genre, this might be it.
Actually, I borked up and mixed up Ash of Gods with Dead in Vinland.

My bad. Too many damn good looking games coming out recently ;)

Shame both are a shade too much for my pocket right now. Either looks scrumptious (though the original comment I mistakenly directed at DiV stands for Ash of Gods).

At least it's not "Dead in Finland" :D
