A new D&D perspective.

<span class="bold">D&amp;D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator</span>, a D&D strategy game, is available now for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - DRM-free on GOG.com

You've fought for kings, slayed evil creatures, and saved kingdoms. Now, it's time to build your own empire, D&D style. D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator is a huge, ambitious game. It's no simple task to single handedly run a kingdom - but here, you'll be tasked with just that: from maintaining resources and infrastructure, through managing armies and leading them to battle. Should you persevere, you'll be rewarded with seeing your very own kingdom rise up to glory. In all this, you'll encounter everything that you know and expect from D&D lore and style including mighty heroes and powerful mages. Throughout all this, you'll have to decide for yourself - whether you're a good, lawful ruler, a chaotic, evil overlord, or somewhere right in between.

Build your own dungeons and raise your own dragons in <span class="bold">D&amp;D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator</span>, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com

It was good enough for some other developer to steal the title to build a castle building sim on top of :p
Nothing is better than my boxed copy of this game sitting on my shelf. Good times playing this game.

It is pretty good until you have the routine of expanding the territory, but its building, expanding and forming parties for rooting out the Evil in the land makes much fun.

The game gets stale after playing through some dozen of times though.

PS: I'm smelling Dungeon Hack being just around the corner.

Oh, Dungeon Hack really deserves a standalone release, not being part of the butchered up Forgotten Realms Archive Collection...

I wonder - if GOG now has the publishing rights to these SSI games ... do they also have access to the source code and their assets? If so, why not making a "HD" release, especially Dungeon Hack? After playing the hell out of Dungeon Hack, I had written a clone game with "high res" graphics which were ripped out of Baldur's Gate in Turbo Pascal / MSDOS. It wasn't finished due to problems with the maze generator.

Still, this would be very cool... after some looking up there is also a recent reimplementation project for the AESOP engine on https://github.com/psi29a/thirdeye, why not lending them a hand? (It's not me).

Perhaps Red Project could these such things as a side project?

They have the rights to the source code and the assets. Whether said code still exists somewhere is a totally different case.
And not sure you can do an HD remake without negotiating with Hasbro again.

Yes, I totally forgot the AD&D license ... but I'm grateful that GOG did pick up the SSI games.

In a perfect world, there would be a box labelled SSI in a basement somewhere, most likely though they were probably thrown into the garbage long ago.

Another possibility is that it was donated (along with other games and source codes) by SSI's president, Joel Billings, to the ICHEG.
Thanks GOG great release :)

igrok: I played the game quite a bit albeit long time ago, I don't remember any such game breaking bugs. Maybe you had an unpatched version or something (like improperly configured system). I wouldn't count on GOG to develop new patches from scratch to old games (this requires considerable expertise and access to sources, which for most games here are no doubt lost). However, I am sure GOG gets the best or the latest version with the latest official patch whenever it can.

JudasIscariot: I am not sure if there even was a patch for the game in the first place. We looked for one everywhere we could but if you or anyone else know if the game did get a patch, then let us know :)
What is the version of this game?
I think the version 1.0 has got the bug.

Last I checked it was 1.0 and I looked about for any patches or updates that may have come out for the game but I couldn't find anything. If you know if there's a different version of the game, let us know :)
Wow, it costs a grand total of one lunch.

ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING GOG!?! :P
