Stranger than fiction.

Crossing Souls is now available on GOG.com, 20% off until February 20, 3PM UTC.
Looks like the summer of 1986 is going to be quite the (bicycle) ride for these five intrepid friends! Thanks to the properties of the peculiar pink stone they discovered, each can now pull off unique action-adventure stunts, fight off monsters or secret government agents, and generally engage in totally tubular 80s high jinks that will make all future kids super-jealous!

Try the Demo to get a taste of what's in store.

Cant speak for anyone else but do not approve of the naming convention that muddies what a "souls" game is.

Growing up in the 80s not a fan of this recent trend trying to popularize 80s nostalgia because people are seeming to forget the most pertinent part of the 80s was it was a cultural wasteland wrapped in retina burning neon. These "Stranger things- likes" are nostalgia for elements from the last half century wrapped in hideous clothes while terrible music was playing.

So while I approve of the game on its own merits, Personally not fond of the things its banking on to sell it.

Just my 2cp.

What is a 'souls' game?

A Dark Souls type game. A rougelike with permadeath and a huge difficulty curve essentially.

[EDIT] A common naming convention for souls like games is to put the word soul(s) somewhere in the title.

See Dungeon Souls for example.

Okay. But does that really mean the use of the word 'souls' in a game has to be exclusive to those?

It kind of is when it is also used to define the genre tremere110 described that was born from the souls franchise IE: NIOH, Dungeon souls, and Titan souls, are "souls-like"

Its not a matter that it has to be. Its just simply a case that is.

Fair enough, I guess. Although I wasn't aware of this 'souls' sub-genre.
Why does Souls get all the glory when Ghosts and Goblins was the original sword and board ragequit? :p

Say what... ? But none of the Dark Souls games have perma-death. And they have a whole lot of other defining qualities, beyond a challenging difficulty level.

Most of those so-called "Souls-likes" tend to be crap and/or have little in common with the actual Souls games. In fact, whenever I see a game with "Souls" in the title, or claims that it is inspired by that series, I take it as a warning sign that it is likely a mediocre cash-in attempt on the back of Dark Soul's popularity.

The Dark Souls inspired games which are actually good, such as Salt & Sanctuary or NIOH don't even have "Souls" in their title.

Edit: Not to mention, this whole discussion seems rather off-topic... The real question is, has anyone here tried Crossing Souls, and is it any good?

"Is it any good?"
6/10 from Gamespot. But then again... they gave the new Dynasty Warriors a 7, and most everyone else is adamant the game sucks.

Hurrah, after years of players complaints about companies trying to copyright certain words (saga, anyone?), we've finally reached the stage, where players complain about the use of certain everyday words in games titles, because
"they muddle naming conventions".

Idiocy, thy kingdom has arrived.

FYI: "soul(s)" is a real word. It gets used all the time. It had not to be invented for the description of a certain genre. It actually existed looooong before the first computer game ever saw the light of day. And it existed even longer, before the first of your (seemingly) beloved "souls games" (be it "demon's" or "dark") got hacked into a programmer's keyboard.
Geez!

Plus, it's been used for many games ( of various genres ) in the past, and will no doubt be used for many more. And since when is it required that the title of a game needs to describe its genre?

Hey, I love the actual Souls series, but this discussion is pretty silly. *shrug*

Anyhow, have any of you Gogerinos tried this game? Is it good? And is it well polished, or does it still require a few months worth of patches?
