COVID: The Outbreak from Jujubee S.A. is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM with a 10% discount lasting until 15th June, 1 PM UTC.

Note from the developer and publisher: 20% of all net sales from the game throughout May and June will be donated to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and other charitable foundations supporting the fight against the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

mechmouse: Sorry Guys and Gals of GoG, but this is a really bad move, and is going to burn up a lot of the good will and possitive media coverage you've just got.

Really shocked this got past your Quality Control.
Some members of the dev team being former CDPR employees might have something to do with that...

At least Plague Inc is an actually good video game. Could have released that instead.
I don't think it's right to release a game like this. Even if 100% goes to charity or whatever they want to call "it".

o.O

Yeah, no, that's a very hard pass. Reeks of opportunism.

More then likely and I don't care if gog zelots downvoted me, it's not about some silly reputation statistic it's about standing up to dickheads who don't care about the death and suffering of others.

EnforcerSunWoo: "20% of all out net GOG sales throughout the month of May and June"
Are they aware May is already basically over?

ReynardFox: If they lock this thread it's gonna make them look even worse this time.
They pushed the game through now, I don't see any variation on the definition of "worse" than that.

Being upset about it is one thing - fully justifiable, but histrionic mouthpieces are really turning the thread into a pool of crap.

I assume that they are very aware, a month and 3 days of donations is a herculean effort from them most likely.

EnforcerSunWoo: Oh wow, a whole 20%, huh? Don't break the bank there. These devs must be humanitarians on the highest level and will never ever be seen as slimy, shady cancerous vermin profiteers that just wanted to fill their coffers during the face of a tragedy. Nobody would ever think that...
And I assume they made this game quickly and cheaply, so they likely didn't even have to spend much to make it(like with mobile game type game dev) & likely profit even more on it.

It may also be that GOG "curated" on this longer than was anticipated. It may been expected to go live much earlier in the month. Not that GOG playing the hare instead of the tortoise would've helped anything.
Nope.

TheMonkofDestiny: Wonder how long the backlash will go on for until staff and moderators make the decision to lock a release thread...
Likely as soon as the higher ups see it as too problematic...then they'll likely lock it "cuz rules" and tell everyone to stfu and buy the game or be quiet...well until the subforums open, that is**.

(If we don't have to wait for them like some other games)

falloutttt: Here's what developer has to say:

"Thanks for posting your thoughts, however, we would like to explain that COVID: The Outbreak is an educational strategy game that should raise the awareness of what is really going on with the virus and how one can protect himself from its reach.

We are donating 20% of all our Steam games sales through May-June to help support the development of a vaccine and we believe it is a worthy goal during this ongoing pandemic.

Naturally, we respect your opinion and we hope you will give us a chance come launch day."

"We respect your opinion, but we believe you are judging a book by its cover. We are raising awareness on how people should behave during a pandemic as well as showing how a virus mutates and how quickly it can spread. However, it is totally fine if you disagree with our notion, you have that right. By donating 20% of all games we want to help out as much as we can during this crisis and there are companies running ads on the virus, making a substantial profit, but they never give back.

Creating meaningful experiences via games is our job and it is a business after all - but we have chosen to share our revenue from this game to aid the world in developing a vaccine, so we can all go back living our normal lives again. If giving tips based on WHO, educating people on how a virus operates while still giving the enjoyment that comes with a strategy game, and donating money towards a vaccine so we can aid the world, is considered to be lame - then so be it, as we believe that doing some good is better than doing nothing at all."
They could have done all of that without branding it a "COVID game", which is probably the better and more truthful route to go anyway, because I doubt they implemented SARS-COV-2 specific traits to the in-game pandemic and gameplay mechanics.

That name is for pure sensationalism and cheap press.
