Dead on arrival

Corpse Party, a spooky adventure about the occult backfiring on some meddling teenagers, is now available with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and statistics, DRM-free on GOG.com.

High school is where teenager shenanigans usually reach the peak of self-endangering recklessness. And when a magic charm accidentally transfers a group of friends to the ghostly past of Heavenly Host Elementary, they've only got themselves to blame for their misfortune. But fortunately for us, we get to follow them through a series of gruesome happenings, otherworldly interactions, sinister puzzles, and gut-wrenching decisions. The story features multiple endings, as plentiful as the various iterations of this horror cult-classic which now gets its definitive PC edition, full of reworked assets and enriched story elements.

Here's your blood-stained invitation for a macabre but curiously intriguing Corpse Party, DRM-free on GOG.com. Please bring your own body parts.
Is there any real gameplay? I've watched now some gameplay videos and I only saw something about reading some text, walk a bit around, reading more text, reading a lot more text, walking a few steps, reading text and so on. I can't see what is so special about it.

Defining "real gameplay" would help.
It's a visual novel mostly.

Unless this version differs sharply from the PSP one, think Telltale games like the Walking Dead. Gather items, use them for puzzles/conversations here and there, avoid enemies occasionally etc. A real visual novel would just be flat out text choices with no character control, so this is basically a small step above that. The second game in this series is more in line with that.
Just started it, I'd forgotten how great the music is.

The gameplay is exactly the same as in the PSP version.

With "real gameplay" I mean something which gives you some challenge to advance in the game. For example some puzzles.

It can be a challenge to find out how to obtain the real ending in some chapters.
If you don't follow a proper sequence you might get a bad ending. Though those are fun to collect.

If you're into those you can even get achievements for collecting all bad ends in a chapter.

Thanks for the clarification. But then I think that this game is not my cup of tea. ;)

Luckily there's a sale going on, you might find something there. ;)
Wishlisted for now
My eight-year-old daughter loves Anime, Manga and computer games (mostly Minecraft and Don't Starve). I think she'll love this. I really need someone to smack me across the face and tell me that this isn't at all suitable for someone of her age, or else I'm tempted to buy it for her. I'm not the best parent when it comes to age-appropriate stuff. For example, one of her favourite films is Grave of the Fireflies. Opinions on the suitability of this game?

It's not, it really isn't.
*spoiler*
Imagine someone getting smashed against a wall and exploding into bits.
That stain is there for the rest of the game
*end of spoiler*

People die in pretty gruesome ways in this, of course it is up to you as a parent. :P

I needed to hear an opinion like this from someone who's experienced the game. Deep down I think I already knew the answer. I'll take your advice and pass on this one. Thank you.

Corpse Party definitely isn't suitable for most people in general: There is gore, torture, mindbreak, and a character who has a dark passion for a girl around your daughter's age.

I would recommend getting the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, if your daughter has an Iphone. While there are murder scenes, they are not nearly as gruesome when compared with Corpse Party. If your daughter enjoys Case Closed, odds are that she would appreciate Phoenix Wright. If you have an DS or 3DS, you can obtain Phoenix Wright games for those platforms.

If Phoenix Wright isn't an option, there are other anime & animated-style games to choose from.

*Shantae
*Undertale
*Ys
*Freedom Planet
*An Elysian Tail
*Recettear
*Long Live the Queen
*Read Only Memories
*99 Spirits
*Umihara Kawase
*Trails in the Sky - FC (First Chapter)

Exceed20XX: Things like Song of Saya aren't under Xseed's control so the respective publisher (JAST) would have to want to step over here first.
Well at least JAST is DRM-free friendly too, so it could makes thing a little easier, and they recently started releasing stuff on Steam and not just exclusively on they shop so it might also help having them release stuff here.

jamesbuc: So... this isnt seen as niche while the Cave shumps were rejected as being too niche?
Honestly, as much as I am very happy to see this game released here I have to agree. Still have troubles understanding why GoG rejected classic Caves games for being too niche while at the same time accepting much more obscure games including other shumps.

I will add that alot of the games from Nintendo is pretty child friendly.
you can probably get a wii console extremly cheap or maybe even free in some cases, now.
Cant really go wrong with mario, Harvest moon, mario kart and some other games for kids.
For more violent games you shoud probably wait until the kid is around 13-16 depending on the individual.
Some take violent games better than others.
