The raw and the cooked.

Cook, Serve Delicious! and Cook, Serve Delicious! 2!! are now available, DRM-free at GOG.com.
Get the first game 75% off and the sequel 40% off until January 23, 2PM UTC. Buy them together for an additional 20% series discount (this will remain in effect beyond Jan. 23).

"Come on, Jake, I said medium rare, not ready to jump off the plate and do a little dance!"
"Alice! This needs more salt! More… More... A little more. Too salty! Throw it away and make me a new one!"
"Kevin, cigarette break was over 3 minutes ago, buddy! Table 4 is about to start nibbling on the cutlery!"

Harsh. But running a restaurant is serious business. If you can't take the pressure, the kitchen can turn into a proper nightmare, but if you conquer its challenges, the world will be your oyster. In the hardcore simulators Cook, Serve, Delicious! you begin as the owner of a crumbling eatery, and gradually step up your cooking, managing, and showmanship skills to become the talk (or treat) of the town.
Once you get tired of amassing Platinum Stars, try the campaign in co-op, go for the Tag Team local multiplayer mode and the Strike Challenges, or just fire up Zen mode for some tasty relaxation.
Don't forget to also grab both games' OSTs for your collection.

Klumpen0815: I think it's really shitty of the devs to not update the Humble Bundle version.
The last update over there is from 06/28/2014 and they added the Battle Kitchen a few months later...
I plan on updating the Humble Bundle by the end of the month. If it wasn't for the GOG release I don't think I would have planned to have updated CSD 1's DRM free version at all so my main priority was to get that version and the GOG achievements/leaderboards put in first.

Zoidberg: Regarding CSD2 and not to shit on anyone's parade but from what I've heard, there is near to no support for keyrebinding (unless the devs managed to get their fingers out of their asses and implemented this critical "feature").
Keybinding was added to the latest update which is on GOG, and you can now custom keybind all 180+ foods. I wish I could have gotten it in earlier but I wanted to make sure all the foods would work ok and it does take time to test all those foods so my apologies.

Are you a developer of the game? If so, would you please be so kind to tell us why DRM-free customers so frequently get inferior support compared to Steam? This is really a bitch move.

I am the developer, and sure, I'll explain what happened in my situation. When I made the Battle Kitchen expansion I completely tied it into Steam- every event you finish throws you to the Steam leaderboards. It also had weekly challenges so that you could compete with other Steam players for the fastest times. Steam was such an intregal part of the expansion that I didn't feel it made sense at the time to release a non-Steam version since that would not utilize the leaderboards or the competitive nature of the expansion. Then I got busy with CSD 2 and eventually I shut down the weekly challenges after a year of them in August or so last year.

Once GOG approved the release I was really happy to see that their SDK would allow for leaderboard support, so I started to remove older features (such as the weekly challenges) and update a few features so that the game would work correctly online and offline. This came at a good time as I was about to take a holiday break and released a major patch for CSD 2, so I had some spare time to fix up CSD 1 for a GOG/DRM free release.

In the case of CSD 2 not having a DRM free release at all up until now, it was mainly due to me releasing lots of updates for the game in rapid time (sometimes on a weekly basis). Now that those will start to slow down a bit more (likely 1 major update a month) I can start updating DRM free versions as well. Keep in mind I'm literally one person that has to keep up with multiple platforms and SDKs all at once, not to mention I'm about to start console development, so the slower I can roll out support for DRM free versions, the best chance I have to make sure they are in a "stable" release and the best versions I can make.
Thanks for being here, vg_chubigans! I have a question, if you're allowed to answer: Allegedly, CSD was originally rejected by GOG. If that's true, who reached out about finally getting it here? Did you have to submit the game again, or did they contact you about having changed their minds?

IronArcturus: Have you tried the game with an Xbox 360 controller?
avatar
PaterAlf: I don't think it will work. You need way too many keys to play these games.
First game works quite fine with a controller. No problem at all and I played hardmode.
Second game... nope, controller is a mess. Don't even try it -.-

When I originally pitched to GOG I was on my own, and the game was getting a lot of traction, but ultimately they passed. Since then I've released CSD 2 and hired a small PR team who pitched CSD 2 on my behalf to GOG, and this time they accepted. I think it could be a number of things- CSD 1 getting really big, CSD 2 doing well at launch, the PR team I hired making a much better pitch to them than I did- but I can't really say for sure what was the main reason. I'm glad they changed their minds of course. :)

The PR team I used was The Indie Bros, who I definitely recommend to any small indie dev wanting some PR support for their game.
Awesome releases! I was kinda surprised by how much I enjoyed the first game when I sprung for it on Humble last year.

i_hope_you_rot: Casual games ?
No one who's actually played these would call them "casual". :P

Good to hear. My first thought upon seeing that the game had "extra" content here (relative to the Humble version) was "Aw, shit." :)

Hi Chubigans, it's nice to see you here, too!
@Everyone who don't know these games: they are very, very good. Depending on your menu, they can be frustratingly difficult or calmingly easy, it's up to you to decide what food items to serve on any given day (with the exception of the challenges in CSD1).

CSD1 has a kind-of story mode - you get new stars for the restaurant by meeting the criteria set for the next star and new upgrades and food items get unlocked gradually. It also includes pre-made challenges in the form of party catering, the Iron Chef show and an ancient temple dedicated to quality food.

CSD2 has more of a do what you like approach - you can mix and match your own menu from food you already bought (in 4 different modes to boot) or go to one of the other restaurants to play one of the levels you have unlocked, which have pre-made menus for each day.

In both, be prepared for a LOT of (potentially frantic) button masing.

yogsloth: "clean the bathroom tycoon".
It's a mobile game. We'll never see it here:

:)

edit: Oh and +1 for Chubigans on following up on their game. Wish more developers did that.

Was going to ask which one I should grab, but with that great release price I think I'll just take both. Plus, seeing a dev here giving a lot of substantial and meaningful input on their game and its journey mean a lot to me. Thanks for the straight answers on your games' progress chubigans!

vg_chubigans:
I initially learned about your game from another user here and was always intrigued based on his exasperated, addicted outbursts of fun frustration.

So, which one should I start out with? Is 2 just a "better" all around game than 1, with everything in the original AND MORE!? Or is 1 a better place to start to get my feet wet and deal with fewer foods. It looks like 2 has prepping of ingredients (the fish), dishwashing and trash type minigames. Are these in the first as well? Same with decorating - I'm leaning toward starting with 1 but I like the idea of those extra minigames and would just jump right into 2 if the first didn't have them.

GOG you forfeit your right to reject good games if you're OK selling mobile phone caliber stuff like this...

Thank you, I appreciate your honesty, but this sounds like a screw-up on your part. Steamworks is like a virus, except that you have to intentionally catch it. I think people would have been fine missing features like leaderboards and weekly challenges if it means proper getting appropriate updates.
