It's been a long time since I played the original, but I don't remember the portraits in the upper left screen corner looking so much like plastic.

That is unacceptable though and I hope it bites them in the ass.

kotcore: not everything is about china, the koreans suffered greatly from japans war crimes as well, so the rising sun is very offensive to them.
That said, I think its unnecessary to remove the symbols from the game. Its also weird not to buy it because some symbols are removed though :D its just a game, people
All due respect: while indeed it's 'just a game' as you say, those who won't buy it -and I'm one of them- because of that kind of stunt have legitimacy to do so. Because where does it end? At which point does one say that enough is enough and takes a stand? Be it about games, books or whatever else, to me that worrying and ever growing censorship trend equates to the frog in the pot; the temperature's being slowly raised until the point where it's too late for the frog to realise what's going on and jump out. Same principle with people remaining silent and shrugging off on that kind of stuff and more, and the boiling point for us is not that far ahead.

Who decides to 'sanitize', for whose benefit and to what end? I for one take great offense in some few making such decisions for absolutely everybody in an attempt to railroad me on a track where I don't need/am not supposed to see/know/remember and think for myself, which I'm perfectly capable of doing given that nature provided me with a great tool to do so: a brain.

So as futile as this may seem to some, me refusing to buy this game version is my stand on the matter.

Xabyer_B: Kalypso removes features like achievements "only for GOG" again. Kalypso "covering with glory" again. What a sad situation!

I recently installed Tropico 3 and it forced me to enter my product key to be able to play the individual, where is GOG's DRM-FREE supposed to be?
Been meaning to try it again, so I just installed it and started a classic campaign.
No requests for entering any keys here.

Posting a link to GOG is a bannable offense now on the Steam forums?

Could well be if it rubs some feathers the wrong way. Kinda depends of who is modding discussions. When it comes to those on that remake -for Devs/Pub. calling it remastered is misleading, pretty sure the Kalypso guy active on it (specially the one on the censorship discussion) has the option to ban users on forum discussions pertaining to that game. Given the run -I wouldn't say for their money considering how many either won't buy or got refunds -Devs/Publisher are given, wouldn't be surprised if indeed they started to use the ban card, if not done so already.

I remember the Publisher for Life is Strange 2 doing just that for people who too vocally for their taste were criticizing the game on some issues.

On that specific aforementioned discussion on that remake, it's interesting to read how some dug deep holes for themselves they'll find very hard to claw their way out of ;-)

Can you take it 'higher up' on the Steam forums? Or is nobody watching the watchers?
The behaviour of the companies representative on Steam and on the virtual chemical toilet (twitter) makes me want to boycott them.

Not quite sure how this works when it comes to the hierarchy and if watchers are being watched. I believe it all falls under the umbrella of the forum rules, and you probably can appeal some discussion bans. But what I know for sure is that there is some 'exercising of power' shutting up some dissident voices, depending who you're dealing with in terms of Devs/Publishers, such as the one I've mentioned in my previous post.

Addendum: it seems that one sure way to encounter the guy from Kalypso's wrath and likely road to ban is to make any reference to the C2 Mod. Methink perhaps because of jealousy (irony)....

I've been keeping an eye on what the Publisher's CM active on Steam (doubtful we'll see him here) has been saying in response to what gamers are saying so far.

The worldwide censorship will remain, there is no multiplayer (co-op) option and no mention so far of implementing it back in so far, no plans to add any further languages than the ones available. But worry not, it seems there will be improvements (ahem) made, probably meant fixing some if not all the bugs/glitches reported. Also be aware that there are reports death by fires have disappeared altogether, the reason behind that one is a real head scratcher and anyone's guess.

Those wanting to know a bit more behind that censorship decision can do so by heading to the linked discussion, which really makes for quite interesting reading and worth a few laughs as well. There are other ones also worth a look.

What a terrible shame what they did with that great game...
