Keep your soldiers close, keep your enemies closer.

The Close Combat series has arrived, DRM-free and up to 65% off on GOG.com.
Bridge Too Far, The Russian Front, and The Battle of the Bulge, three legendary top-down RTS classics chronicling the gruesome battles of WWII are finally back, exclusively on GOG.com. Known for their snappy AI, realistic sound design and well-researched scenarios, Close Combat games let you side with either the Germans or the Allies as you pull off smart tactical maneuvers and desperate acts of heroism.

Additionally, two of the recent entries in the series, Gateway to Caen and Panthers in the Fog, bring a modern touch to your real-time WWII battles. Relive or change history as you experience the British assault on the aftermath of the Normandy landings and the ruthlessness of the desperate German counterattack at Mortain.

The discounts last until February 13, 2PM UTC.
Yes, yes!! Give me more Slitherine games!!

Kingpuddycat: Yes...yes...yes....Thank you GOG!

I hated dealing with Matrix games. Plus their prices are horrible.

I'm going to go ahead and assume they are also part of the reason why CC5 isn't here.
The developer already posted in the thread why; it's a code issue, which they are working on and hope to fix.

But without the source code, it could be a while.

I played a long time ago 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the 3rd one (The Russian Front) is the best. The others lack the feeling of grand campaign as your units progress in experience and equipment from one battle to other, since they take place in a much smaller time frame. Also the encounter with Soviet behemoths such as KV-2 in 1941 is memorable, no other game in the series achieved that.

Interesting, because there is a working version of this already available with the publisher I just mentioned. It includes both the original and a newer version of the game.

To be clear, this is Close Combat 5 I'm referring to. Close Combat 1 as far as I'm aware is not available anywhere.

Sorry you had problems. What exactly was the issue dealing with Matrix? The prices on Matrix are identical to all other sites like GoG, Steam etc unless there is a promotion running.
This a dream come true. I spent years playing the original Close Combat in the mid 90's on my aunts computer. When first joining GoG and seeing the library of great classic games they had Close Combat was one of those games I always wished for. I've always had a fascination with World World II and this game really lit the fire for me to learn more and study as much as I could in school about it. This is a clear purchase without any hesitation, I just want to say thank you so much GoG team. You folks rock, you make gamers past memories come back alive and help create new ones for gamers who've never dipped their feet into this franchise.

IainMcNeil: Thanks for all the feedback guys. The GoG team had to go back to old retail masters and try and make them windows compatible as the source code for the original 5 games was lost many years ago before we acquired it.

They managed to get 2-4 working but are having issues with 1 and 5. We hope they'll be able to resolve them and add them to the list too at some point. Then there's the other 5 games we released. We don't have a firm date for when any of these will be available.
War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition and War in the East, please!

HereForTheBeer: Thanks for the clarification. I'll surely be picking up at least some of these titles this week.

And I surely must take the opportunity to beg for a gOg release of the Steel Panthers games. ; ) Since you're here and all...

<beg-beg-beg-beg-beg-beg!>
Did you know we're working on a sequel to that with the original team from SSI ;)

Thanks for the reply!

This was sometime ago and I haven't made a purchase from them as a result of this, but I made a download purchase from them for one of the close combat series. I purchased a new computer and wanted to re-download the game but as it turned out, I had to re-purchase the game. The e-mail I kept confirming that I made the purchase wasn't good enough. Again some time ago so I can't recall exactly, either there was a time limit in which you were able to download the game or it was only good for a one time download only.

I will take part blame as I probably should have read the agreement from their site but left a very bitter taste to say the least. I will buy via GOG with no question though being DRM free and all of course, so if more Matrix titles come through here, I'll be more than happy to buy.

The prices seemed high at the time, the title I bought with them last time was around +$40 for just one game. Seems steep considering the age, and if I recall, there was some moans over at steam about it too.

Anyway, I'm just happy to see them here at GOG. Thanks again for your time and getting these here! It was an insta buy. :)
Thank you GOG, nice one! :D

Thanks for sharing! I figured the reason 1 wasn't here was compatibility issues. I also hope GOG is able to get 1 and 5 working; nearly 1,200 combined votes for 1 and 5 -

I did not know that. Interesting bit of news and of course I hope it shows up here, coinciding with a release of the classics.

Best of luck on the project.

I suspect you may have contacted the payment provider and not us as we never charge to redownload. Any game you have registered with us can be downloaded as often as you want and like GOG, we never use any DRM. Either through the members area or by contacting support. If you contact PayPal or Bluesnap by mistake they may tell you you incorrect info as they deal with thousands of accounts and we tell people never to talk to them but they see a payment invoice and respond to that address and not us.

So if you have any issues please do contact support and they'll sort you out.

We'll have more games on GoG soon but they need to be selective to avoid overloading you! We have 300 strategy and wargames in our line up and release ~3 new releases a month.

Lets hope that Archon engine is up for that challenge.
