Thanks for the info. IMO, if you are going to use the donations as advertising (even in the minimal way you do currently) you should guarantee a minimum percentage of the purchase price will be donated and ideally mention the specific organizations. Even if that percentage is small, at least it is something specific that anyone buying the game can calculate rather than using the idea of donations to sell the product while actually donating very little. If you aren't willing to do that, you should remove the statement about donations from the store page (even if you continue to donate and describe those donations in forum posts and/or blog posts on your site). Possibly you should remove the statement anyway since I'm guessing it is likely to only be (USD) a few cents per purchase, not really something that should factor in to a purchase decision.

Hopefully it is better in the UK, but in the US most organizations relating to homelessness seem to mostly spend money on staff who aren't homeless (although some staff have been homeless at some point). This means it can take a distrssingly large amount of money to have much of any direct impact.

I appreciate financial transparency and I know not many developers do that. I find it interesting and I'm sure it is super helpful for anyone considering making a game.

They already do; the store page says 20%.

So far we've raised £7500 for charity. Our total profits don't currently equal that much, but we wanted to do something with our launch money. It's split evenly between CRISIS, Shelter and the Clocktower Sanctuary. I've attached our donation receipts as proof (Danny Hayes is me, the designer/coder for the game). Hopefully we can keep this going!

We're gonna do a full postmortem at some point soon that details our journey and all the finances and donations with more transparency. :)

I know what it's Like to beg on the streets, Taking cigarette butts out of bins ashtrays, Not eating for a whole fortnight while running around begging on the streets, Begging service stations for credit, Walking miles to get ten bucks off a friend that owned a newsagent, I've been holed up in a caravan park for $110 PER WEEK, living off service (gas) station rations, Going to charity after charity getting food hampers and Eapa's so our electricity didn't get cut off, Getting what little we had repossessed. Yeah I've been there was not fun I don't need to buy this game AS I'VE LIVED THIS LIFE, BEFORE.

I missed that but I see it now, thanks. It is something at least. However, they say 20% of profits, not revenue or purchase price. That is particularly misleading since many games may not make any profit. It is designed to sound like a large number while not actually being much money. They aren't the worst offender (the COVID game comes to mind) but it feels opportunistic.
