markrichardb: It's a side story within the same universe, which usually means some references to the first game. My guess is playing Stasis is not necessary, though it could enhance the experience.
I'm actually worried about the other direction - I'm sure I'll dive into Stasis at some point and I don't want this one to spoil any reveals / stuff that would have been a unknown early in Stasis.

I'm afraid if I fire this one up sooner than later, I'll learn that "Secret Program X" that I spend most of Stasis attempting to unravel the mystery of, will be revealed in the first 5 minutes of Cayne LOL.

That said, I probably will play this first (seems too tempting not to get to it sooner than later) unless someone jumps in and warns me not to.
Although have not played Stasis yet, I bought the Deluxe content to show some support.

yogsloth: Lesson: Make good games (like Stasis); get more money and support.
Couldn't agree more! ( :

Very nice! Installing now :)

tfishell: I do hope we'll still see another classic freeware freebie released during the summer or next Christmas. Halloween Harry, Heroine's Quest, SimCity 1, Death Rally, etc.
I’d really to see Heroine’s Quest get released on GOG, as well. The publisher, Screen 7, is even on GOG.
Wonderful! I've been waiting for this to be released on Gog :)
Wow, another freebie today!
Thank you but.. this is a recent indie game.. are they crazy? O_o
Not usually my cup of tea, but yeah, I'll support a developer who does something like this. Stasis & Cayne Deluxe content bought. Easy decision.
Thank you for the game if i enjoy it i will certainly get your other game.

tinyE: $5 for a soundtrack and some wallpaper. :P

okay.

born3088: Maybe you should see it more as a way of supporting the developer, given that they put the game out for free and don't gain anything from it (except maybe some publicity for Stasis)
Actually this game is an engine demo for their new game, currently on Kickstarter.
Selling soundtracks/wallpapers is always wrong, but more acceprable on a free game.

In this case though, Cayne is meant to increase Kickstarter pledges, and as such the sale of these items, is not good.
Both from a consumer, perspective, and the devs, as if the Kickstarter is short, they lose all the pledges, even if they sold enough deluxe content to cover the gap.

Kickstarter's an all, or nothing time limited system. Which is why I dislike it, I prefer direct crowdfunding, and if I back a project, I set no time limit on getting the startup total. If it was a direct system, the Deluxe sales could go to that total., and make more sense.

This makes my point, it does not actually help reach the Kickstarter goal.

I'm surprised it's not mentioned in the GOG announcement, but it's in the game, and on the Steam version.
Here's a link to the Kickstarter.

I'm not interested in a separate Kicstarter game, and I'm not interested in your dislike of developers charging for extras -- they have every right to (it is not "wrong"). All I am interested in is that this is a developer who have made a game and are giving it away free. That it's in anticipation of an upcoming release is neither here nor there; it's free. That's good enough for me to support them.

hyperagathon: Yay for the DRM-free release! Now just do the Linux version of Stasis
This!

I haven't played STASIS yet because I'm waiting for the Linux version. Cayne may convince me to back Beautiful Desolation - they've promised Linux on Kickstarter, but prior to Cayne coming out, they had no history of developing for Linux. STASIS has been "coming to Linux" for a long time now.
thanky you GOG and Brotherhood :)
Il wait until the discount is off and then pay full price to support the devs.
Your interest is irrelevant, the entire purpose of this free game is to promote that Kickstarter, it wouldn't even exist without it.
I wasn't criticising you for buying the deluxe content, I was saying it was a mistake to offer it, when it takes potential support away from the devs main goal, if the Kickstarter is $5000 dollars short, and they gained more than that through the deluxe contenr, it would still result in a failed Kickstarter, when without it, the total may have been achieved.

While selling content such as this is more acceptable, when the game is free, in this particular case, it's a mistake, as they need backers, more than the cash, just now, and splitting the support up, may backfire on them
