Carradice: Hunting games make it more difficulty by improving the odds:

- Considering vision, noise, smell (are you downwind or upwind?)

- Offering something like a crossbow instead of a gun. I would love to see implemented not just a crossbow but a regular bow. Even a traditional bow without pulleys.

- Offering to use tranquilizer darts instead of lethal bullets/arrows, and allowing some time (seconds) for taking effect. Enough for the animal to rip you if it is close and has good natural defenses. This also makes the game accessible to players who prefer not killing the animals.

Which ones have you tried so far?

Also, if you are in for survival, a large part of it would actually be gathering and setting traps.

CatGog2017: Subsistance (on steam) is great as long as you don't trivialize food, but I'd want to get subsistance on GOG before I started playing it again. I don't think there's any game like subsistance on GOG at the moment. (sorry of the late delay).
Thanks for the hint, no problem with the late reply, I do that sometimes too.

I guess it is not the same at all, but Miasmata looked interesting?

ThomNG: The Hunt is on! Enjoy!
Thanks for coming to the GOG forums!!

Love this bit in the blurb: "the challenges of ethical hunting". Nice. No "pay to kill" like we see in the real world too often.

I would like to ask, if you do not mind, if there is or it might be considered the use of non-lethal ammunition. Even if it is a bit of a fantasy proposal. Something like the "sleeping darts" that there was in other hunting games. I remember one where the player hunted animals from the Quaternary. In that game, using non lethal ammo added to the risk of the hunter, since they took a little time to work, I remember it was few seconds. So it might be enough to have the hunter hurt or killed by an animal that would go to sleep right after the attack.

This addition, or something similar, would draw a portion of the public to the game. I do not know how many, but for some it would be the difference between a no-no and something to consider.

All the best of luck with the game, it does look terrific.

I remember that game back when it came out and it did indeed look interesting, but the devs were unable to add any randomness to facilitate replayability and I'm a stickler for replayability. Thanks again.

@Swedrami - It seems to me that you are slightly enamored with Way Of The Hunter and DLCs ... just a tad. LOL

I too like hunting games, though in real life I did long ago move past wanting to kill animals. At heart I am a Vegetarian, if not in practice ... not found a good enough meat replacement yet.

Anyway, it is the chase and stalking, plus the beautiful scenery etc that appeals to me, and maybe a throwback to the Hunter in me.

Alas though, the price of the Way Of The Hunter and all those DLCs, and more to come no doubt, has put me off so far. Once I buy the game, I can see myself wanting all DLCs, so it will be a costly endeavor.

For now, I guess I will just have to make do with the following.

Carnivores - Dinosaur Hunter Reborn (DRM-Free from Humble + Steam key)

Deer Hunting - Animal Hunter 2019 (Microsoft)
Deer Hunting 2015 - Mountain Sniper Shooting 3D (Microsoft)

Redneck Deer Huntin' (not sure if this is part of GOG's Redneck Rampage Collection, but I have it in the disc version in any case)

theHunter - Call of the Wild (Epic and the classic version at Steam)
I have been strong enough to resist buying any of the many many DLCs, despite many sales at Epic, and how good they sound and look.

and a few hunting games on disc.

Timboli: and a few hunting games on disc.
I have to wonder, does Way of the Hunter have a crossover with The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt? Because at 20.5 GigaBytes[!] I have to wonder what all that space is going to.

As for meat, I'm looking forward to the day that the meat industry quietly integrates animal-harm free labgrown meat into their processes.

Because of the frequent updates to the thread?
Just part of the regular roundup of announcements and such I happen to stumble upon.

It is a very good immersive hunting sim though and worth picking up, even undiscounted.

The traversable environments are rather large while being incredibly detailed, it's surprising that it's just 20.5 GB, actually.

Oh. I hadn't realized you did individual game release news pages, and just imagined it was because of a personal connection to the game.

Thanks for all the work you continue to do here, all voluntary.

It looked like it would probably be so.

Well the graphics are pretty sensational from what I have seen of what appears to be a very open world with enough variety. The detail is certainly there on all manner of things, including vehicles etc.

I've tried some meat replacements that weren't too bad, but just not widely available.

Admittedly I am a torn person. I love the taste of meat, if well cooked and not rare, and enjoy very few meals without meat in some form. But intellectually I hate the notion that an animal or creature has to lose its life just so we humans, and even other animals can have a meal or three. And that animal might have been quite young, so not had much of a life. Logically I know it is the way of the world, circle of life and so forth, but there are all sorts of imbalances and it doesn't really make it feel any better. I guess we are superior humans who can think about such things ... superior in some ways anyway.

But on the other hand, I am all for killing some dangerous creatures ... typically the poisonous variety.

I won't go into how I feel about anyone who created such a world ... that's another story about someone I don't believe in anyway.
