eric5h5: The Atari 8-bit version? Because that was the first; the others (and there are a lot) are ports.
Yes, the original game. In case original is not available the first official DOS port.
DOS games in the 80s were universally horrible though. Boulder Dash is no exception, having those ultra-hideous cyan/magenta graphics, and the sound is just a few beeps. Not worth bothering with.

Hence why I suggested Rockford, which actually had a VGA port and wasn't a vague stick.

I will not. DOS in the 80s was a very bad joke. Anyone who gamed on an 80s DOS computer apparently had a choice between either doing that or staring at a blank wall, and frankly I'd take the blank wall. Even an Atari 2600 would be better. It may have had a resolution of 3 pixels by 2 pixels, but at least it had several colors, and it could play two beeps at once.

Hey, the Boulder Dash site does actually have the original version on-line. And here's the DOS version if you want to torture yourself.

Not all of them. Actually there were DOS games already in the 80s which looked better than some of the games released today.

I'm pretty sure those are screenshots of the included Amiga version. Look up some screenshots of the DOS version and it's put to shame. However Amiga was ahead of most everything back then, as far as image quality.

And audio, especially in its early days...

Erm...from the game's page:

"A classic gaming gem returns - with glorious Amiga sounds and graphics!"

Oops, looks like my memory was fooling me. I've played the DOS version years ago and thought the game looked like the screenshots.

Most of the screenshots on that page are from CGA mode, which really is ugly. The screenshots from EGA mode are not that bad. But I agree, they are still worse than those from the Amiga version.

I wonder if they plastered those Amiga screenshots on the back of the DOS box though
