I, too, definitely prefer (the original) 2D optics to 3D, when it comes to this game.
I was around, when, out of a sudden, everything had to be made in 3D, just because that was "the next big thing".
But some things just look (and play) way better in good old 2D.
My two cents.

While I only ever played the C64 version of Boulder Dash, I will agree: that NES version looks fine.

But does it *sound* fine?

(I haven't actually heard the audio from any version of Boulder Dash, as I have never played any version, but in general find I prefer NES audio to C64 audio.)

No original game - no buy! Why it is so hard to understand that classic games should be included for free or in form of DLC at worst.

Yeah, the NES artwork is nicer than the DOS or Commodore versions, and everything moves smoother, but I grew up seeing the look of the computer versions, so I definitely have a bias.

It does have the original levels. With the original graphics/sound.

I read the description and I'd like to get some elaboration on this fron the actual buyers. If you happen to buy it would you be so kind and show me how it works in the game.

In Day of the Tentacle Remastered player could play original Maniac Mansion through a game arcade inside the game itself. It was good and all, but not the same as having the original game ready to be played out of the box. Some years later we got the standalone Maniac Mansion game and I personally was really happy about it.

That is how I expect old games to be offered in digital stores, "as is" in it's original form.

I saw "Boulder Dash" in the thread title and got very excited, but when I checked the game page and screenshots I'm not excited anymore.

If they absolutely need to recreate graphics for that game, then they should come up with something clever, not necessarily spectacular even. But what I see here doesn't do justice to the original game at all.


And I, like others, wish that there was the original version as an extra download included, that might be enough to convince me buy this if the price is otherwise right.

I guess I can give this a try some day if I run out of games to play, but I really don't get any Boulder Dash feeling from the screenshots.

I already did; read my previous post. This isn't really a remaster though, it's a mobile game based on Boulder Dash. Also, which "original" do you want? The Atari 8-bit version? Because that was the first; the others (and there are a lot) are ports.

Well, it was produced with the publishing hand of Victor/RCA, so you'd hope they'd get the audio right?
At the very least, they could have pulled a Rockford and made the hell urchin visually appealing.

Looking at your screenshot...that voxel-look really doesn't change the problem that I (an admirer of the original game) have.

If there would be an option to play the whole game (with which I mean: all levels - old AND new) with the original graphics and in 2D, I would've purchased it already.

If they simply would have added the possibility(!) to play the whole game in 2D, and would have gone with some spruced up 2D graphics, because they don't want to keep that C64 look (which would be understandable), I (probably) would have purchased it already - though, in all honesty - depending a little on what graphics they would've chosen.

See, it's all the 3D parts of the game, that keep me from buying.
Personally, I don't like that particulary visual style (YMMV, ofc), and on top of that, the third dimension adds nothing to the gaming experience.

And for simply restricting myself to only playing the 20 levels, that are included in the original graphics - the price is too high.

That's the way I see it.
Of course, I can't speak for anybody else.

There's an option for 2D graphics, however it's just using an orthographic camera instead of perspective, so it doesn't really change anything. As far as I'm concerned the style is just sort of...there, and doesn't help or hurt the game (aside from the default character, which is off-putting).
