As I understand the development team doesn't have the resources required for a Linux release too.

Has anyone tried this game on Wine?

Sadly no Windows XP 32-bit support so I'm unlikely going to get this. I'd beta test this for you if you made it for XP. Game is made for DirectX 9.0C with only 512MB video card which works fine for XP and Vista. I could easily run the entire game off my 30GB Ramdrive. I'm not sure why they needed W8??? or W10 support. Shouldn't any Windows Vista or 7 game run fine on W8 and W10 without any significant modification?

There are only two Windows OS to support XP 32-Bit and Vista 64-Bit and that should work on any later 64-Bit OS.

The other significant knock on this game is the name of it. The use of the word "Oriental" in the front can have a negative connotation since "Oriental" is the adjective for "Empires". I would suggest it to be renamed Ancient Chinese Empires, Chinese Empires, or Asian Empires which would be less offensive today.

Imagine if they had a game about African tribes and called it "Negro Empires". I think a ton of people would be upset and would prefer "African Empires".

Since I'm unable to play it and only check out some videos and photos. This game does remind me slightly of "The Ancient Art of War" from Broderbund. If they took advantage of the current graphics used in this game and were able to license and update The Ancient Art of War I'd get this from this company.

But seriously the game title is offensive. If you must use the term Oriental in the title I think "Empires of the Orient" would be less offensive if you're just using the term "Oriental" as a marketing tool based off of the word "Orient". Even "Empires of the Orient ][: Genghis Kahn" would have a nice sequel ring to it and sounds better than the offensive "Oriental Empires" .

Think about it. It's still early enough to fix the naming problem. I'm guessing no Asians were part of the programming team or consulted in the marketing of the name to determine if it's offensive at all.

Is he serious about Oriental Empires being offensive? Its the ancient term for eastern territories, used for over 2000 years. How can historical naming of a continent/area be offensive to anybody is beyond me.

I played a couple hours last night and love it (despite how impossible it is to chase down and corner those bandits, even with nobles...). I keep running into an issue though where a unit (general+bodyguards only) refuses to move. Multiple turns in a row I've given it orders to move, all sorts of directions, explore, toward bandits, away from bandits, anything... And it just sits there. IT only moved again, after about 6 turns, when my leader died and it became the leader. Even a save, exit, load didn't make him move.

Is this a bug or a mechanic I haven't learned yet?

EDIT: Had similar happen again in a new game. A unit standing outside of a city refusing to enter it.

So checking out this publisher's lineup... I didn't recognize them, but I've enjoyed some of their other titles and this one. I hope Starship Corporation comes here. It looks like a particular itch I need to scratch.

Yes, and it apparently works perfectly. But better still, you can run it natively with an appropriate Linux Unity runtime (v4.9.6f1) and the Steamworks.NET plugins (see the linked post and the rest of that thread for more details).

That's probably because you are from Singapore. The word "oriental" has a negative connotation attached to it from the United States side and since this is an English word you probably are unaware and have no experience of the history of this word. While you may not be offended individually it is because you are yourself unaware of this history being born in a predominantly Asian majority country. Perhaps one day you would be enlightened. Now in Singapore there are many different types of people there. I know some percentage of people might be Malay or Indian there as well are both these people grouped into the "oriental" category? Are you of full Chinese descent or other?

If I were Asian, I'd feel far more offended by your condescension than by a random word in a game's title. You are aware that you sound like a self-righteous asshole in this post, right?

I'll agree that due to the game's nature, it would have been more appropriate to call it "Chinese Empires" instead of "Oriental" since to anyone from a western country, oriental can mean anything from the Middle East to Japan. But maybe the devs have plans to expand the game's scope via DLC or something. Either way, it's not really your place to criticize imo.
