Bet you didn’t expect this news, but here we are – Betrayer is now available on GOG for FREE, as we continuously work on making games last forever!

Betrayer is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure set in the New World during the early 17th century. You’ll step into the year 1604, having set sail from England with the expectation of joining a struggling colony on the Virginia coast. Instead of a thriving community though, you’ll be greeted by an eerie silence and mysteries; wondering what calamity befell this land, robbing it of vibrancy and life. Through the careful gathering of clues, your quest will be to reconstruct the narrative of this ill-fated settlement and uncover a way to restore order.

Check it out now, for FREE on GOG!

We'd also like to take a moment for a big thank you to Tyler, also known as tfishell – one of our fellow gaming enthusiasts, who helped us bring this gem to our catalog. We couldn't have asked for a more passionate and awesome community. Let's keep making games last forever, together.
That's awesome, but how did Tyler, AKA tfishell go about getting this done. I'm very curious now.

Thanks, tfishell, for the hard work. Wasn't aware of the effort behind the scenes, interesting to read on how you go about this. Cheers GOG, for making it all possible and working with the community. And: Blackpowder Games, I really appreciate you bringing your game here in this way, thank you.

Swedrami: Well, thank you again, good sir.

tfishell: Sure. :)

Swedrami: Now we just need people to do the same for all the other games on the community wishlist.

tfishell: I was willing to do it for free + I had some free time, but I understand most other people have plenty busy lives and don't have time. But of course, whoever really wants to is certainly free to do so. (As long as people don't ask for my help doing lengthy research, respectfully)

@anyone: My general advice is use a site like MobyGames to find the credits (or if the credits aren't on a site and you have the game, see if you can find the credits there) and see who the most important people likely are. Search-engine their names (especially with related key words like "gamedev", "programmer", etc. if their names are pretty generic), see if they're on LinkedIn or have other public contact info. Of course always be polite.

Personally I'd say don't bother with games you know or highly suspect are with highly-profitable AAA company now, as they likely don't want to bother. And if the game has like 10s of thousands of votes I quite sure GOG has tried already and may still be trying; I'd also say don't bother but that's just me. I'm just trying to provide caution about what imo is likely to waste time. (Unfortunately you'll probably waste quite a bit of time already.)

Previously, user Sinistar helped bring back (iirc) Seven Cities of Gold, I believe PiranJade helped with a title (and came close with Ambermoon and -star), Barry_Woodward (who has since changed his name) worked to try to bring Cinemaware titles (and I think some others), and I helped bring back Harvester, Akalabeth, and Starship Titanic (and I think I can take lesser credit for a few others like World of Goo and Aquaria, though those were already on stores; I did contact devs and encourage GOG releases). I can imagine there are numerous other forum members too and the general collective who vote and contact.
Any interest in digging up Soldiers of Anarchy?
Surprised at how little fanfare that gets.

If not, no biggy.
Thank you gog and tfishell for bring us here this game.
Thanks a lot!

blotunga: Btw, I've found one of the founders of Optik Software, who created War Inc., https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-streiner-92813a3/, but I can't add or message him. I wonder if anyone from GOG's side or someone who's linked to him could contact him to check on the rights of War Inc. I'd love to see it on GOG.
I'm unable to message him either. I might try some things later but can't guarantee of course. It appears he may have had a relatively young death in his family less than a year ago so that adds awkwardness.

Some options. I'll let GOG staff correct me if I'm wrong about below:

https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/212184689-Contact-information-for-affiliates-press-publishers-future-employees?product=gog

You could try inquiries @ gog . com, but I understand if GOG is worried about that getting spammed with trivial things.

You could try messaging this info to a blue, or sharing it on the GOG Discord also where blues frequent. Or going through the Support bot to reach a human.

Other possibilities are seeing if you can reach SNEG (or a similar publisher of old games, like Night Dive), and perhaps they publish it. Not to get into controversy here but Zoom-Platform is another option.

Probably not, but maybe in the future.

I can't find any contact info for Carsten Strehse. This might be relevant at a quick glance, but I don't want to do anything with it right now.

Oh, that's ace. I bought that on Steam a donkeys age ago and IIRC it was a pleasurable (if janky) game that I played for a while before moving onto something else and forgetting all about it until now. I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself with this again!

Thank you, tfishell and GOG.

SNEG are doing their best to remain as mysterious as possible lol.

I found Oleg's Twitter easily enough. But yes, it'd be nice if they actually had a website and other social media presense. :P

I thought you'd have some contact in GOG bizdev who could take over from here :D
Thanks very much Tyler, GOG, and Blackpowder games - this looks like an interesting game!
Thank you so much for giving this for free. Very excited to play it for the first time.
Played this on Steam during early access, or whatever they called it then, and found it very disappointing. Eager to try it again though, and now DRM free! Thanks GOG.

Not someone I have like a "solid relationship" with. But I could theoretically pass the ideas along or suggest this person checks out this thread.
