Bet you didn’t expect this news, but here we are – Betrayer is now available on GOG for FREE, as we continuously work on making games last forever!

Betrayer is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure set in the New World during the early 17th century. You’ll step into the year 1604, having set sail from England with the expectation of joining a struggling colony on the Virginia coast. Instead of a thriving community though, you’ll be greeted by an eerie silence and mysteries; wondering what calamity befell this land, robbing it of vibrancy and life. Through the careful gathering of clues, your quest will be to reconstruct the narrative of this ill-fated settlement and uncover a way to restore order.

Check it out now, for FREE on GOG!

We'd also like to take a moment for a big thank you to Tyler, also known as tfishell – one of our fellow gaming enthusiasts, who helped us bring this gem to our catalog. We couldn't have asked for a more passionate and awesome community. Let's keep making games last forever, together.
Thank you to GOG, Blackpowder Games and now the notorious tfishell for bringing back this game from oblivion.

Swedrami: Well, thank you again, good sir.
Sure. :)

Swedrami: Now we just need people to do the same for all the other games on the community wishlist.
I was willing to do it for free + I had some free time, but I understand most other people have plenty busy lives and don't have time. But of course, whoever really wants to is certainly free to do so. (As long as people don't ask for my help doing lengthy research, respectfully)

@anyone: My general advice is use a site like MobyGames to find the credits (or if the credits aren't on a site and you have the game, see if you can find the credits there) and see who the most important people likely are. Search-engine their names (especially with related key words like "gamedev", "programmer", etc. if their names are pretty generic), see if they're on LinkedIn or have other public contact info. Of course always be polite.

Personally I'd say don't bother with games you know or highly suspect are with highly-profitable AAA company now, as they likely don't want to bother. And if the game has like 10s of thousands of votes I quite sure GOG has tried already and may still be trying; I'd also say don't bother but that's just me. I'm just trying to provide caution about what imo is likely to waste time. (Unfortunately you'll probably waste quite a bit of time already.)

Previously, user Sinistar helped bring back (iirc) Seven Cities of Gold, I believe PiranJade helped with a title (and came close with Ambermoon and -star), Barry_Woodward (who has since changed his name) worked to try to bring Cinemaware titles (and I think some others), and I helped bring back Harvester, Akalabeth, and Starship Titanic (and I think I can take lesser credit for a few others like World of Goo and Aquaria, though those were already on stores; I did contact devs and encourage GOG releases). I can imagine there are numerous other forum members too and the general collective who vote and contact.

Thank you GOG! ^_^!
What a lovely surprise. Thank you!
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one. Thanks to everyone involved.

Begs the question tho, it was my understanding that Blackpowder Games was no more so like, what happened?
Ah, I remember this game. It was a weird but enjoyable title.

Thank you!
Good work with this, indeed.
I remember playing and fully finishing the game with all collectibles in 2014, i've enjoyed the mystery and exploration a lot. The only thing that lowered the experience for me were graphical glitches (back then at least) on radeon gpus. They manifested as flickering white rectangles across certain shader/effect in game. No idea if it was ever fixed within amd driver or in game, or it's still present. An interesting indie title regardless though.

Edit: Had no idea the game is delisted on Steam for a while now. I salute all parties involved in bringing it back to life here.

Btw, I've found one of the founders of Optik Software, who created War Inc., https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-streiner-92813a3/, but I can't add or message him. I wonder if anyone from GOG's side or someone who's linked to him could contact him to check on the rights of War Inc. I'd love to see it on GOG.
