AlienMind: Well, a percentage of people on this planet is sexually confused. Let them have their "i don't know which of the two sexes I am" pronoun. Be glad you are not one of them (as this has psychological and physiological.. lets say.. strain) and leave it at that.

Arundir: People are free to invent new fictional universes, stories and characters and from my point of view can use thousands of pronouns if they like to and who knows some of those new universes/stories might be a big success. Perhaps I might even like those too, but do not inject fictional pronouns, political agendas into established pop culture relevant universes that already exist for ages.
They created the universe, they can do what they like with it. its a strange restriction on freedom of speech to say that they shouldn't do whatever they like with their IP, because they created that IP some time ago.
Snail speed download. Should have selected Steam version instead on Bakerit. As much as I like DRM free, no point if I'm stuck at 0.1MB/s!

xemmy: Noticed that too. Also of course the default character is a woman.
I bet 90% of the player base are males.
Better to just ignore this kind of desperate pandering.
According to my husband who played the old tabletop version back in the 1980s, it's Battletech canon lore that a lot of mech pilots were female, because they were smaller and fit better into the extremely confined cockpits. Nothing at all "new" in having the default character be female.
I'm going to wait on this for a bit and see how they come along with patches, might pick it up in a sale.

Kakarot96: Ok, more news about this.

FYI, that free DLC they offered with a Shadowhawk and an Atlas variant? It has DRM. You need to be logged on your Paradox account (in game) in order for the game to show the variants to you. As soon as you log out or block the game in your firewall, the extra content disappears.

It is not as the rest of games here on GOG where you have a little patch to add the extra content to your game. It is active just while you are online logged to Paradox :S

So that new note at the bottom of the requirements in the store page that says you need an account to redeem your codes for the extra content? Well, it's just half the truth, because you also need the account to play with the content. I can understand this for Steam but, for the GOG's classic installers?

Finally, i would like to make clear that those variants are usable single-player, it's not something for MP. You just need to enter a SP skirmish game and select them in your Mechbay to use them...if you are logged on a Paradox account.

I am very sad to discover that HBS let Paradox force this kind of things into a DRM-free game. A shame.

Edit: this things didn't happen when HBS was it's own publisher (see Shadowrun games). A real shame.
Their partnership with Paradox is really a disgrace.
But GOG is at fault too. The GOG store says 2425 DRM-free games. But they lie. They should now differentiate and clearly write that one (or more) of them is not drm-free. GOG is selling DRM games and should come out and clearly say that. It doesn't matter if a portion of that is still playable without third party account, a drm-free game would be playable regardless. A drm-free game would provide a server application users could run to host their games if they wish. A drm-free game would not need an account to access some of the content, even if cosmetics.
So GOG, you need to set thing straight now.

Regarding the KS, this now set as a fact that HBS failed to deliver their promises as they promised a drm-free game and that is not available.
Heh, expected the association with Paradox as a publisher to end up with some kind of dirty trick.

I wish I could've been pleasantly surprised for once. Oh, well. Discount shelf purchase, I guess.

Edit: Out of curiosity, how's telemetry with this thing? P'dox connectivity being required for backer DLCs makes me strongly suspect it is implemented after all.

Arundir: Do progressives have to fuck up every pop culture relevant universe which emerged like 30+ years ago? "They" as a pronoun choice for a character? You do not choose a gender but a pronoun?

Obvious pandering is indeed obvious, but to be fair an awful lot of high profile characters in the oldschool tabletop lore are actually female. Heck, Natasha Kerensky is practically the franchise mascot.

I'd agree with this--I for one buy almost exclusively from GOG because their hardline stance on DRM means I don't have to spend a bunch of time investigating all the ways the developer and (mostly) publisher would like to screw me over like I had to in the bad old days from about 2005 to 2012. Multiplayer accounts don't bother me much because of how matchmaking services work but if GOG starts going down the slippery slope of needing 600 accounts to access offline content it'll become just another Steam clone with less selection. Which would be very unfortunate.

Your husband`s being nice to suit female sensibilities. I played Battletech from the beginning and while female pilots were in it, was clearly and obviously a male-orientated world. Males PRIMARILY drove these things, women were not put in cos they were smaller (such nonsense made up rubbish to keep you happy). Just look at the game itself, huge hulking machines battling out, clearly and overtly MASCULINE. Females were put in as a form of politeness and somewhat titilation.

Only in the past 10-15 years it has been heavily parasited by feminism- again as with almost everything these days. 90% Men play these games. Check out the stats on board games, MWO, even on utube; it`s males, males males with the odd female. Yet if you were to look at the game you`d think it was 50/50 females -it`s nowhere near that number.

Think! Why would you have females mostly piloting these things when MALES mostly play the game? It makes no sense.

Men play this game, women really aren`t that interested.

Also, they didn`t wear much in the cockpit either if you remember the old stuff because it was always hot in a mech, bt due to feminism everyone where`s full kit in a hot mech- Dumb.

Further, I hate this pronoun sjw `They` crap when choosing `Him` or `her`. This `They` is just more nonsense trying to brainwash people into a way of thinking. It`s not battletech or Mechwarrior Lore.

Thankfully, the rest of the game isn`t too bad apart from the feminist/sjw retarded over representation.

I'm not exactly buddy buddy with the feminist camp either, but you're an idiot. The clan lifestyle and the Mechwarrior universe was based on bloodlines, not gender. In fact there were multiple notable female il-khans in the fiction of the universe. And who's to say that this does not take place in some alternate universe from the tabletop games? In all the gameplay videos I've seen, I only saw mention of the old Star League to give it any semblance of the Battletech universe, but nothing of the clans or of their wars. I mean you help a queen regain her throne, but she wants to maintain the old ways of having a constitutional monarchy, for crying out loud. Doesn't exactly jive with the theme of tribal warfare of the old table top game.
As far as who plays what, it's just a simple fact that there are more male gamers than female gamers, but nowhere does it say that women can't play the so-called "manly" games, whatever the hell that means.
I really wish they let us enter our own pronoun. 'Lord Commander God' has a nice ring to it ;)

And all you have is bs shaming language, and random airless ideas. retard.Nothing of substance. I talk from experience and proof. Clearly you`re a feminist braindead mangina retard.

I am female and I would agree there are so few of us that play these genres of game. I regularly played a table top version. There were 5 regular guys, 2 not so regular guys and me. That would make 1 in 8 - about 12% female.

As for the game and being DRM heavy, I am sooooo sooo glad I didn't pay to have this on my system. I am relatively new to GOG and it saddens me to think this is how Stea.... I mean GOG is going to play. I dithered over purchasing it for about 2 months and for whatever reason, opted not to. Even last night and into this early morning. I just had a bad feeling about it all. I even pulled out my Mechwarrior (WizKids) favorite pieces and set them up on my little table top here.

It just makes me sad. So many Mech game possibilities have ended in disaster. I would hope "they" pull "their" cockpits out of their Engine exhaust vents before it's too late.
*packs up her Mech-minis*

Once again, paradox takes the piss. God I hate those pricks. Glad I didn't spend my money on this shitstain.
Yeah the pronoun thing is very off-putting. I would have no problem if you chose your gender as male, female, or other, and then they based the pronouns used off of those selections. However not being able to choose your gender at all, only what people call you, is what's ridiculous. I don't care what someone calls my character, only what they actually are. If I choose the 'he' pronoun, that doesn't necessarily mean that my character is male; but if I was able to choose the male gender, then the 'he' pronoun would be applicable.

The fact that this is starting to infest gaming now is alarming.
