I am sure he is not to cocky accepting help; however... the situation is probably a bit more complicated. As well i do think he is very talented, because the project, a EVE-like space game, is a herculean feat. The issue is on "another spot"... because this game simply needs a capable engine and apparently those "free engines" are not fully capable of handling it, from what i understand.
I am not a dev, so my judgement considering such matters is limited. I can just say as much, by my rational knowledge "every engine is different, and got is pros and cons"... and not every engine is capable of everything.
Perhaps there is still some free engine capable of handling it... i dunno... i lack the knowledge.
Just be aware... apparently he is still "single"... and the game is huge. So, a engine able to "unload" (by having a lot of utilities) lot of work is probably the stuff he is looking out for... i dunno,
Shmacky-McNuts: If I understand the situation, small devs gotta pay a fee for every customer over a certain quota. So it goes by brackets or tier levels. The more success. The higher the pay. But because the small devs dont have a ton of money, higher success becomes a double edge sword.
Unity takes more as they make more= screwing over their profit margins. But because the devs cannot stop in the middle of a game project, changing the contract mid way is legit extortion.
My take on it. But I could be wrong.
Well the issue is a bit comparable the the tax-office and their demands. If someone is in a certain "bracket or level" as you say... which is not exactly poor but as well not wealthy... somewhere in between... they may have to pay taxes nearly at the level of someone actually wealthy... but they just BARELY got out of the "poor-condition". There are always some unlucky spots in which you are becoming strained the most... related on the current politics. Those extremely poor usually can "evade" most of the taxes, and the very wealthy can afford it out of their coffee-pocket at some point... but those "in between"... especially just slightly at the edge in which they was able to leave the "poor condition"... this is the most tricky spot.
