Apsulov: End of Gods is now available DRM-free.

The humans delved far beneath the earth to find the mercy of the gods. What they found was never meant to reach the surface. Not on Midgard, nor any of the nine realms of Yggdrasil. Now their discovery wreaks havoc on their world, exploiting their technology, and leaving all in misery and decay. Through all their conquests and revelations they never stopped to consider that some things are buried for a reason.

In a world of technology and mythological artifacts, chaos rules over the human realm. It is in this chaos that you find your purpose and destiny.
Looks interesting.
Norse Mythology in a sci-fi setting

Like Too Human but better? :]
Interesting, indeed.
But – what about Unforgiving. A Northern Hymn released in 2017?

There, you were essentially denied the technology, not have [whatever] use it.
So, early adopters, what is the verdict/first impressions? Definitely intrigued.
Definitely looks like my kind of game BUT I'm completely burned out on Norse mythology, vikings, Iron Age northern Europe tribes, civilizations and cultures. People tend to complain (rightfully so, mind you) about zombies in games and media, with everything being kind of oversaturated with it, well, Norse stuff is my zombies, I guess.

Also, considering the fact I grew up as basically a punk kid, the whole "edgelord metal" imagery does nothing for me, as well.

Mind you, I'm not trying to imply people's taste and sensibility are somehow "wrong" -- they're most definitely not. I'm just chiming in because this does look like my cuppa tea, if it wasn't for the whole Norse stuff that I honestly can't stand anymore.

Normally I don't even bother responding to the endless droves of people who feel the need to voice their disinterest in games, which to be honest is more than enough reason to not say anything on your part (no one cares that you don't like it)...but this game is very different than your typical game based on Norse mythology. The presentation of the Norse mythology here isn't exactly in the way of high fantasy Skyrim, nor is it close to God of War, or any sort of action-adventure or RPG with the elements of Nordic legends. This is a dark, grisly sci-fi game with a differential approach to Norse mythology. It's painting a whole different picture of what the mythology is, and no, there's no superhero named Thor here who will save us all, and there are a lot of nasties who want to kill you. All too often mythology in games glorifies the huge, the glorious, and the vicious, but this game is a huge departure from that and it's showing that clearly in the visuals, text, and video we have available.

Norse mythology has never really been something used in dark horror games. But the type of supernatural/other-worldly/demonic horror theme that has been done to death has more Christian biblical roots. We also don't have many sci-fi horror titles that are modern and very dark and disturbing. While I can't be sure on reviews of Apsulov, I'm definitely purchasing it as I appreciate the unique setting and I relish every horror game even remotely close to this because they're different.

If it's not your "cuppa tea", go play a non-unique game set in some other mythology that probably has dozens (hundreds?) of other games set in it's the all-too-familiar scenario. Those can be good when the mood is right, but we need more dark sci-fi horror with an emphasis on Norse mythology.

Well, speak for yourself.

But, I see that even you had a lot to say in response! You made some good observations too. But see how the discussion would not even have happened without groze's post.

Thank you for your input. But as has been said rather clumsily by another, this doesn't seem like your regular norse mythology background. A bit like 28 days later were to zombies I'd say.

Maybe digging a bit more could change your mind? If you are ever so inclined to.
Bought this and i am impressed with the game so far. Like the setting and the mystery. Hope the previous game will be released here as well.

First of all, let me just say I'm not going to snip or edit your post because I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment -- I, too, tend to avoid replying to all the "oh, no, another pixel-art game", "where are the good old games, GOG?", "oh, another adventure title", "oh, another walking simulator", "oh, another one of [insert title or genre people don't enjoy]", "oh, it's too expensive". I wasn't trying to crap on the game, apologies if I came across like another one of those people who populate these forums and like to complain about every single thing whenever a game is released. I fully agree that their opinion is absolutely irrelevant, and neither GOG or the devs/publishers should care about it. I'm a firm believer in voting with your wallet, and that's what I'm doing with this game.

On the other hand, I wasn't trying to sway anyone's opinion on the game, I just felt like chiming in because this IS my kind of game, if it wasn't for the metal imagery and the Norse setting (even if it is extremely light). What I meant to say was that I do find the game to be very interesting, and I would have bought it otherwise, if it wasn't for that particular thing. It's not like I'm crapping on the game or just "imposing my opinion because I'm ENTITLED to it!", again, my apologies if that's what it felt like.

Also, thanks for the in-depth discussion and the clarification(s) about the mythology aspects of the game, I really appreciate it.

Happy gaming! :)

What about the game's performance / hardware requirements?

It's good, get strong System Shock 2 vibe playing this.
Performance too, got a GTX970 and runs smooth as butter with everything maxed.
