The call of adventure beckons!

Set out to sea and become a Corsair in Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse, a new Dungeons & Dragons action-RPG coming DRM-free to GOG.com

You are the youngest son of a Noble Merchant and an easy life lies ahead - but alas, your soul yearns for adventure and the affections of Kara, the Caliph’s beautiful daughter! You set out to sea, as only becoming a Corsair can grant you her hand in marriage.

Al-Quadim: The Genie's Curse brings the D&D formula into a never-before-seen-in-a-D&D-video-game setting, and features plenty of twists on the classic gameplay. Gone is the endless dungeon crawl; instead - players will embark on a puzzle-filled adventure. Gone is the monster-killing XP grind; instead - you'll be rewarded by solving puzzles and progressing the story. It's a unique proposition in the D&D world, and certainly one worth trying.

Explore the seas and the scorching desert sands in Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse, another DRM-free AD&D release on GOG.com.

Stream watch:

Tune in to Twitch.tv/GOGcom on Monday, September 21st at 2pm GMT / 4pm CEST / 10am EDT to see Classicor, our resident D&D specialist, show off this title live.

anamorphic: Oh WOW! I never finished this one, but I still have my saved games from 1996. (I wonder if they would still work?) At the time, I could not figure out how to win some of the combat and got stuck somewhere.

Oh man, GOG are sure dishing up some great nostalgia lately... :) :D
They should still work, just put them in the right directory :)

katatonicone: That kind of game that allows you to swim on a turtle and you may get a camel kick in the nuts.
That comment alone (there is a picture) made me want to buy the game. Wishlisted it for now.
Ever since you put on the Beholder series I been hoping for that we gonna get the Dark Sun games and Al Quadim. Thank you so much for making it happen. And for me I gonna head off now to buy it.

And who wouldn't enjoy that... ?!

Looks like this is a Zelda style Action-Adventure, rather than an RPG? Seems like it could be pretty fun, and the setting is a nice change.
Nice, another D&D Gold Box game?

mchack: Although to put a little damper on it I get a checksum error when trying to run the .sh
Same problem here !
Those were some great releases today. Thank you, GOG! :)
This game is a legend. Can't believe it finally made its way onto GOG. Wishlisted!
Nice release.
What a pleasant surprise, I just recently played Al-Qadim at a friend's place and I was surprised at how gracefully the game has aged. Well, at least in terms of presentation, the controls during combat can be a bit shifty. Lovely graphics and hypnotizing music, creates a nice oriental/fantasy mood right off the bat. Definitely has that golden age of PC gaming in the mid 90s feel. The gameplay is rather simplistic, focused on action and some puzzles. On easy and very easy difficulty, the twitch factor gets defanged enough so that you can enjoy the game even if your reflexes aren't sharp.
There's isn't much joy for loot hording gearheads and people with a character customization fetish. This is more similar to a SNES action RPG like Zelda than a typical D&D game. Requires some patience for backtracking, lever & switches puzzles, mazes and having to figure out where to go next without GPS quest markers. I suggest checking out some gameplay videos so that you won't go into this with the wrong expectations.

Make that two! OK, the setting is also nice, but I'm a sucker for crazy stuff like this.

Thanks for the insight. This one will be afuture buy, for sure
Found the setting very interesting and it seems "lightyish" compared to other RPGs I've tried.

mchack: (Although to put a little damper on it I get a checksum error when trying to run the .sh - What's wrong with the simple and good tar.gz from before anyway? never had problems with those. noone needs an installer script on linux ...)
$ 7z x installer.sh
or
$ unzip installer.sh

Of course you want to run that on a non-corrupt installer file.

thanks, but the file is corrupted on gog's end(tried download multiple times and also mirandir seems to have the same problem). Oh well support ticket is sent and I'm sure they'll fix it in the morning.

Still glad that game is finally back :D Waiting another day to start playing isn't all that bad...

fortune_p_dawg: I thought my 9-year-old self was the only human alive to have played that game! Well, me and some of the Nintendo Power editors...

haydenaurion: Heh heh, obscure ass console games are my specialty. :P
I always wanted to give that one a whirl. I think I first learned of it in a NP mag or in the small World Championships 1990 booklet. Either way it looked very appealing.

Man... sometimes I shudder to think how many of the old NES classics I did not get to play for reasons other than time...
