The call of adventure beckons!

Set out to sea and become a Corsair in Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse, a new Dungeons & Dragons action-RPG coming DRM-free to GOG.com

You are the youngest son of a Noble Merchant and an easy life lies ahead - but alas, your soul yearns for adventure and the affections of Kara, the Caliph’s beautiful daughter! You set out to sea, as only becoming a Corsair can grant you her hand in marriage.

Al-Quadim: The Genie's Curse brings the D&D formula into a never-before-seen-in-a-D&D-video-game setting, and features plenty of twists on the classic gameplay. Gone is the endless dungeon crawl; instead - players will embark on a puzzle-filled adventure. Gone is the monster-killing XP grind; instead - you'll be rewarded by solving puzzles and progressing the story. It's a unique proposition in the D&D world, and certainly one worth trying.

Explore the seas and the scorching desert sands in Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse, another DRM-free AD&D release on GOG.com.

Very nice releases, GOG. Never played them but look GOOD and OLD (and of course the have manuals).
Let's just hope weekend promo will be dull and I'll bite sth.
Published by GOG, nicely done. I know atleast one person who is really happy to finally see this game here. :)

That kind of game that allows you to swim on a turtle and you may get a camel kick in the nuts.

Al Kajingles?
I should still have a boxed copy lying around.
This game was made by the same developers as Entomorph, and (I think) uses the same engine as that game. You can probably notice the similarities between the two.

Hi Pete! :P
Now that's a game I've been trying to get on the WiiU Virtual Console. I'm pretty sure lots of others would enjoy this gem of our time on their new consoles. Unfortunately, all the contact with Culture Brain isn't working quite well, at least for me.
I got thrilled when they released some of their games on the EU eShop.
But I need this particular one :P

Impaler26: Nice Release! I rarely buy games at full price nowadays but if there's nothing for me in tomorrow's weekend promo i'll grab Al-Qadim. :D
*dies of shock* =P
...and a linux release, too. :D You made my day today gog! Thank you!

(Although to put a little damper on it I get a checksum error when trying to run the .sh - What's wrong with the simple and good tar.gz from before anyway? never had problems with those. noone needs an installer script on linux ...)

EDIT: Sent a support ticket about that, I'm sure they'll fix it soon...

I thought my 9-year-old self was the only human alive to have played that game! Well, me and some of the Nintendo Power editors...
More GOG-publshed, D&D classic, Linux supporting goodness. It's a good day.
This is a good one, another instant purchase from the D&D classics stable!
Here's hoping Darksun will be next!
I never completed it. Pathfinding was completely broken on my pirate copy, and the character got permastuck in an in-engine cutscene.
I will buy it, eventually, once I knock at least one already purchased title off my backlog.

Great release!

I've recently played this and to help anyone to decide if it's a game for them I'd offer the following pluses and minuses:

+ Original setting - it's nice to see something different from the standard fantasy fare (I'd recommend reading the short story in the manual to help set the scene).
+ Interesting story.
+ Great variety of quests and puzzles to solve.

- Combat is typical action-rpg simplistic (however, I still enjoyed it).
- There's a timed trial at the start, which I found quite difficult because I'm crap at that sort of thing. If you struggle my advice is to set the difficulty to "easy", as the game is all about the story and quests anyway.

I finished the game in about 15 hours and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.

So in summary - by rpg standards it's fairly short, but very sweet!
