Through the looking glasses.

Alice VR, an immersive first-person exploration adventure based on a sci-fi re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

After an emergency landing that woke you up from cryo sleep, the ship's AI gives you a set of pretty clear instructions: search the planet for some fuel and let's get the hell out of here! But as you begin exploring this curious, abandoned city and meet with strange characters like the Cheshire Cat and a holographic Mad Hatter, you begin to question everything you've been told. Who built this place? Where did everybody disappear to? Why is the ship's computer so eager to get you out of here? There are many paths through this haunting story, and all of them will face you with inventive puzzles that require creative use of shrinking and growing devices, gravity-bending technology, and careful observation.

Whether you play the regular version of the game or the VR-enhanced experience, prepare to visit breathtaking locations that will challenge your perception of reality every step of the way.

Follow the white rabbit and dive into the captivating world of Alice VR, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until November 3, 11:59 PM UTC.

Great that's not VR only.

Nirth: Great that's not VR only.
I don't think GoG would stock VR only.... not until/unless VR gets full market penetration.
How many times are they going to 'reimagine' Alice in Wonderland?
It could still be good, but sigh.

vicklemos: Judging from your location, that's understandable. The almighty Terrorvision aka an "overseas underrated" band!

nigelbeans: I was listening to some Terrorvision songs two days ago. Nostalgic it was.
Yeah we're all happy 'cause it's easy and it's free, huh?! :P

mechmouse: They where damn good. I liked Space as well.

Leroux: That's the wrong Alice, GOG. The other one, we want the other one, please! ;)
avatar
mechmouse: American McGee's Alice.... absolutely
Agree on both! :)

VR is a fad.

Breja: The gimmicks are coming, the gimmicks are coming!
More or less what I was thinking. It even has "VR" in the title, so chances are this is a very minimalistic and linear experience, with nothing much to offer aside from the aforementioned VR compatibility/focus.

I guess any VR enthusiasts who prefer DRM free software will be happy about this and similar releases.

Crawled down a rabbit hole and found some interesting background on cdp.pl.
Brings about a lot of questions, too.

Hm, you are right. I never knew that CD Projekt Red had another studio going. Interesting.

So this is in fact a CD Projekt game :)

Edit: So company effectively split. This is no CD Projekt game then but a new cdp.pl company.

Well, most of it (if not all) has been bought by folks who once worked with CD Projekt.
The CFO, COO of cdp.pl is also the chief of Klabater, the publisher of Alice VR.

Here's an article worth a minor insightful read: https://goo.gl/7JWu2U
(I hope the shortener worked right).

Basically I'm just jumping from one POI to the next, thanks to my amazing research fu :3

Well it certainly makes for an intersting reading allthough google tranlate is not very good at translating it :)
I'm curious but I'll wait and see what non-VR reviewers have to say about it.
A full-priced VR game. Intriguing. It might sell very well or it might flop, depending on how willing the masses who have spent hundreds of dollars on their Rift or Vive are to buy games for it. It's a small but captive market right now - plenty of games but lots of shite to sift through, quality titles are thin on the ground.

Personally I'm well-served with Google Cardboard right now. I've managed to use RiftCat to try streaming ETS2 and a few VR shovelware titles that I happened to see in bundles to my USB-tethered smartphone, but the resolution is simply too low for it to be really worthwhile beyond being a curiosity. The (surprisingly manageable) head pan/tilt tracking lag doesn't bother me, but road signs and the dashboard are impossible to read in ETS2, and there's no movement tracking in RiftCat (for obvious reasons), meaning that a lot of games that rely on physical player movement or the Vive controllers won't work with it.

Its seriously too early to make that call.

Tech does have its fair share of fads. But I've seen enough "fads" become mainstream to know making that call right now is premature.

Personally I'm interested, and I'm all for titles that are not bound to either Facebook or Valve.
