Chasmancer: This one's a solid purchase if you like spy/assassin actions. The system requirements are fairly low, too.
Gameplay or graphics-wise it doesn't compare favorably to Hitman: the DRM edition, but you'd get more playtime out of it.
It had a really unstable launch, but developers since patched up the biggest issues and added QoL features players asked for.
Can't speak for how well it'd work on newest systems and hardware, though, might be a stability nightmare again.
Thanks man.
I loved the first "Death To Spies" game quite a bit, but haven't played either of the others yet. Glad to hear that they patched this one up.

If you have played the first game, could you maybe comment on how this game compares to it? Because if it is anywhere near as good, I'll give it a play sooner than I would otherwise.

The first game, while not a triple-A title by any means, played kind of like a retro-stealth game. Meaning it wasn't anything fancy, but once I got familiar with the mechanics of it, I got kind of obsessed with it, and really enjoyed my time with it.

I guess I'm asking if the mechanics and overall feel are similar to the first game.

Mechanically it's more similar to Hitman: Contracts. And it's a game that by all odds ought've come out a year or two after Moment Of Truth.
To tell you the short of it, developers wanted to make a sequel to Death to Spies, and gameplay previews from that time shown much promise, new and interesting mechanics. But infamously scummy publisher wanted an orthodox Hitman clone, preferably without spending a cent on its development.
And Hitman clone we've got, half a decade after a better game could've been released.

I like it and would recommend it to people enjoying the genre (especially people that didn't like the direction Hitman series have taken in last decade), but great game it ain't.

That's interesting. Thanks.
Too bad the devs couldn't make the game they wanted to make.
On the other hand, I am also now very curious to play this and see how it turned out.
I played it back then when it was released on ps4, and i honestly liked it. Of course, if you expect a Hitman clone you'll probably not find what you're looking for, but if you accept it for what it is - a low(er) budget approach to the stealth genre - you'll probably find a lot to like, i surely did!
So this game definitely finds its way to my gog collection, even though i played it already on console. And for the current price I'd definitely recommend it to anybody interested in stealth games.
The forum is pretty much a mess. Maybe I should check youtube gameplay to see if it's worth it.

Tarhiel: Very nice, I was hoping this one would end up here eventually.
Instabuy, of course, thank you! :)

albinistic: How is the game so far if you have gotten to it?
If you're a hardcore fan of the Death to Spies series, you may not like it. And if you compare it to the Hitman series you will find flaws everywhere. In my opinion, the negative reviews are because of a comparison between this video game and the Hitman series or Death to Spies. I don't care so much about the reviews if they come from the press or from web portals. And yes, I take owners' reviews seriously. But i also like to discover a video game for myself. Over the years I have enjoyed many games with negative reviews. Like for example ''Velvet Assassin'' which I honestly liked with all its programming flaws (including a somewhat weak AI as well) and a final stage that goes from being a stealth to a third person shooter). Anyway, far from criticism (which is subjective), I recommend you try it for yourself. In my case I bought Alekhine's Gun. And I played it for a while. And I liked it. For now I can't say much. And when I finish it I'd like to do a review of what I thought of it in general. Maybe one of the weak points I hear from other people about the game is related to the AI, which depending on your experience you may or may not perceive as weak.

Hello, thanks for the recommendation, but I just have a question regarding the game. Are there any performance issues while playing the game, or crashes that happen often?

Exactly my opinion! I don't give much about "professional" reviews, if i would i would have missed many great games over the years!

Hi!
In my case, I have not had any problems with performance or gameplay glitches (until now). Remember that your computer must meet at least the minimum requirements set by the publisher.
Un abrazo desde Costa Rica!

''Professional'' reviews is just that... an opinion. And they should not condition people. Everyone to his own taste. :)

Okay, thank you for the reply! :)
The performance issue reviews were my only concern.

Why is this game so much on GOG? It's $3.99 on Zoom platform site.

Went to see Zoom's listing and yikes (this is from the actual game description over there):
Alekhine's Gun was made DRM-Free on ZOOM Platform FIRST! Regardless of GOG's incorrect copyright listing, if you check with 1C Entertainment or review our News page archive, you'll find out that we did it FIRST. The original DRM-Free listing was made available on May 28th 2021.

That actually makes me want to use Zoom Platform less, that comes off as quite spiteful and whiny.

ZP owner is a cool guy, but they come off little hostile. DRM free stores should work together and don't like how there trying to push Zoom exclusives as well. We don't need a new epic.

Ugh... What the hell was that for? I could understand such a statement if GOG on the game page or the News release stated something like "Alekhine's Gun is now finally DRM-free". But this is just weird.

Maybe there's some bad blood between GOG and zoom and other shady stuff that we're not aware of. But it's a bit unprofessional from zoom putting stuff like that. It'd be time and money better spent if they finally decided to put screenshots on their game pages.

FFS!... DRM and anti-consumer politics are increasing everywhere and the two biggest DRM-free stores seem to only be focused on going full retard :(
