A Triple-A Ubisoft Digital Premiere

They may have been nearly lost since the late nineties, but they're very much alive in game design (and our fond memories) even to this day. Today's triple Digital Distribution Premiere from Ubisoft is not just a set of releases that start with the letter A, it's also a collection of games that introduced something new to their genre, offered a unique combination of playstyles and design choices, or tried something fresh and risky with great payoff.

All three releases are updated to work with Windows 10, and are available in a classic Ubisoft bundle at 20% off!

Anno 1602 A.D. is the one that spawned a series famed for its ambitious mix of real time strategy, business simulation and city building. It's a game that throws you, a pioneer of the unknown, into humanity's most far out frontier to colonise and conquer. Here, you'll find everything from exploration, trading, resource management, diplomacy and even combat - truly solidifying the experience of a true freedom to design your world, and the absolute control to do so your way. Anno 1602 A.D. includes Anno 1602: Creation of a New World and its expansion Anno 1602: New Islands, New Adventures.

Albion is a game that takes classic RPG and Dungeon Crawling, a healthy dose of humor, and risks its dangerous voyage far, far beyond earth into humanity's true final frontier. It's a deep-space adventure that draws bits and pieces from an unusual pairing of titles like The Elder Scrolls and Ultima - all to feature great looking 2D overworld exploration with detailed first-person 3D combat. Its most direct roots, however, stem from titles known as "Amberstar" and "Ambermoon" - two parts of an Amiga trilogy that never came to be concluded. Designed by the original team behind the Amiga classic, Albion is their true spiritual successor in everything but the name.

Archimedean Dynasty takes on one of humanity's biggest, most unfamiliar and inaccessible unknowns: the deep, dark sea. You'll pilot a state-of-the-art submarine to brave the depths and trenches of an underwater colony in turmoil. The bulk of the gameplay will be familiar to veterans of series like X-Wing or Freespace, but it's the absolutely unique setting and atmosphere that truly make this title worth remembering. Archimedean Dynasty soon spawned the AquaNox series, making today's release the final piece of a trilogy unique enough to truly earn a place on anybody's shelf.

Brave the distinct unknowns with the Anno 1602 A.D., Albion, and Archimedean Dynasty bundle, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Wednesday, August 5, 1:59 PM GMT.

damien: Requiem: Avenging Angel!
That would be something, considering it apparently has some game-breaking scripting bugs etc. on Windows XP and newer, IIRC? If GOG could overcome those...

Fandi: And since Settlers, Battle Isle, and now Albion is here, the Blue Byte catalogue is nearly complete.
(For me, anyway.)
But I'm still missing the Extreme Assault.

Dear GOG, any news on that one?

philarmitage: Another vote for Extreme Assault from me.
Yes! I've been waiting to play the full version of Extreme Assault forever! GOG really needs to get it!
Great releases! May Anno 1602 pave the way for the Anno 1404 & Anno 2070 to come over here! :D
OMG .... Albion thankyou the gods of GOG.com ! I love this game :)

Acriz: Yes, exactly that.

This release combines the original game Anno 1602: Creation of a New World and its German-only add-on Anno 1602: Erschaffung einer neuen Welt - Neue Inseln, Neue Abenteuer which also adds a few new missions. It was the first US release of the game.
Albion's graphics are still beautiful.
anyone tried Albion on new Windows 10 yet? still god my old copy ( oky i got severals... ) but it refused to work on that system :(

Dalswyn: Weird. It should be either Anno 1602, 1602 AD, but not both.
Anno 1602 Anno Domine is a bit repetitive.

But, yeah! More Ubisoft!

Also, wasn't Blue Byte the publisher for Archimedean Dynasty? At least that's what Wikipedia is claiming.
You’re right. It was officially called Anno 1602 in English as well, but they changed the title to 1602 A.D. in North America and Australia.

Please choose one, GOG (preferably the original title).

zeffyr: Tell me, Smug Cat, how long haven't we seen new Ubisoft release? The curiosity eats me alive :-)
11 days ago, we had exactly 2 years ever since the last Ubisoft release here (Settlers 4).

IronArcturus: It looks like AD is DOS-based. Do you know if it works with an Xbox 360 controller?
I presume it would be doable. Possible problems:

- You probably need to sometimes access the keyboard while you play, just like with many other joystick space/sub combat games. Sorry I can't recall how many actions there were for keyboard, ie. whether there are few enough to just map to the gamepad buttons.

- Generally speaking, you might not get the full range of movement in the corners (this is because the range of movement with Xbox gamepad is round, while those older PC games expect a square range of movement). I can't tell for sure how much it matters for AD, it depends on the game if this becomes a problem or not when using these newer gamepads. For instance for Prince of Persia Sands of Time, your character won't necessarily run but just walk, if you try to go "diagonally", ie, turn and run at the same time.
Great release!
Among the three, I find Archimedean Dynasty particularly interesting.

Let's hope that these games are just the first of many new entries -both old and new- in the Ubisoft catalogue on GOG!

I think Albion is a DOS game IIRC, so shouldn't it run ok in DOSBox?
