Who let the blobs out?

A Boy and His Blob, a reimagining of the endearing puzzle-platformer, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with a 15% launch discount.

Earth is being invaded! Again! By a cute white Blobolonian, seeking help to overthrow the evil Emperor terrorizing its home planet. Luckily, it happens upon an equally charming earthling, and the unlikely duo ventures into Blobolonia, armed with only their determination, their inventiveness, and a backpack full of the alien's favourite snack: jelly beans.

Blobolonia is not a very friendly place, though, so it's fortunate that the lovely Blob is made out of highly huggable but also extremely flexible materials. Need a ladder, a trampoline, a parachute or a protective bubble? Perhaps a bowling ball or a devastating mech? Just fetch the right jelly bean from your trusty backback and let your shapeshifting friend take care of the rest. Because all you need when exploring a colorful alien world filled with angry blobs, is a caring companion and some imaginative cooperation. Oh, and an unlimited supply of unhealthy snacks.

Follow the trail of jelly beans and have a taste of the amazing adventures of A Boy and His Blob, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until January 26, 4:59 PM GMT.

Yes it can :-)

I doubt there's ever been a PC game that can't be played without a mouse or keyboard (or both), in 24 years of gaming I've never encountered one.

I think she meant "played effectively with a keyboard". Quite a lot of platformers and other action-oriented PC games these days are designed for controllers first, and sometimes the mouse and/or keyboard controls aren't nearly as well-implemented.
I just come home and find this. Bought! :) Thanks GOG and Majesco and devs! :)

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons requires a controller. Both because it would be really hard to play with a keyboard, but the feel of the controls play into the narrative as well.

high rated
Someone grab the boy's hand already!

Looks cute, and for some reason, the boy reminds me of Heidi.

Ah I surely agree on that, Towerfall comes to mind and if it wasn't a wired keyboard it would have probably flown across the room by now. This game seems to be better in this case.
Wanted to get this for the Wii, but never got around to it.

Will definitely consider this if the port is good.

I remember this from the Wii, pretty neat game!

PaterAlf: Wasn't de Blob a freeware game on PC?

Grargar: There were two versions of de Blob. One that was free on the PC that started as a college project and an enhanced/expanded one that was published by THQ on the Wii and later bought by Nordic when THQ shut down.
Having played them all some years ago, I can say there's a world of difference between the free PC version and the 2 released for console. The PC freebie is fun, but it has that ultra-short tech-demo look that college projects have. The two console releases are genuine games. (The first was Wii-exclusive; the second was multi-platform).

From a game evolution perspective, it's interesting how different the commercial version became, while retaining exactly the same concept.
I once borrowed this from the library (in its Wii version), but remember coming to a frustrating halt when I couldn't get past a level. I think it may have involved transforming the blob into a rocket... These days I'd run straight to Youtube and look for a playthrough, but at the time I didn't think of it.

Anyway, up to that point, I found it lots of fun. The graphics are adorable. The levels (when you're not inextricably stuck) don't wear out their welcome. And there's a button which makes the boy hug the blob, which appeared to have no gameplay purpose whatsoever... ^_^

If the PC port hasn't mucked up anything significant, I'd like to tackle it again.
Tell me i'm not the only one that spots Cthulhu in this screenshot. :P
