Guardians of the block

8-Bit Armies: Guardians, an extra faction added for FREE to the fast-paced RTS of blocky voxel mayhem, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and multiplayer.

Ready for more blocky soldiers and some sweet blocky explosions made by blocky war-machines? The free Guardians DLC has just been un-blocked and you can now expect to meet their structures, weapons, and well-trained units in the chaotic, 8-bit battlefields.

Scorch turrets, anti-air drones, snipers, grenadiers, siege artillery - there is even a spectre tank in there! No voxel is safe from these guys, not in Skirmish nor in Multiplayer. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and enlist them!

Unleash your 8-Bit Armies: Guardians upon strategically placed voxels, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Nice to see more content to a great game. Now if they can just give us LAN play so that aspect of the game can be unbound from the "optional" galaxy client.
On the one hand it's nice, on the other hand the game simply wasn't particularly complete to begin with.

Personally for me, new content release only five (!) weeks after the original is something *not* nice. It only makes me want to wait longer and get the final gold definitive director's cut version with everything included.

Patches, fixes... etc are very much welcome. An add-on/expansion pack a year, or at least several months after release are great. But these kind of additions are a no-no to me.

e.g.
I buy a game, reach level 5 after two weeks, and then hear "Hooray! The developers added new music and sound effects to the game." So for me it would mean that had I waited two weeks, I'd have been able to play the first 5 levels with the new music and sound effects. And it makes me wonder whether it wouldn't be better to wait longer for more "new content" rather than continue playing and getting what in effect is a suboptimal experience.

I'm happy that the devs are listening to feedback from the players, but if you wanted to go this way, just mark it as In-Dev so we know what to expect.
Thank you Petroglyph. I know this is only a small addition on the basis of fan feedback. Can't wait for the third fantasy faction with new campaign and skirmish maps. Even if its paid dlc. Afterall the game was dirt cheap on release.

Free extra content is always welcome (see my GOGmix). So thank you for that. :)

The game heavily focuses on MP (even tho it also has supposedly very solid SP campaign) - low initial price point to reel as much people as possible into the MP scene and then keep releasing content packs and updates to keep them interested + release an occasional paid DLC. It's a good model, people interested in MP will want to play the game when it's as lively as possible and I'm pretty sure Petroglyph won't be mad for additional funds when the game reaches the end of its lifespan and people not interested in MP purchase the discounted Gold or whatever edition.

Is this the first ever weekend release?
Anyway, thanks a lot to the developer for this!

Yeah, that was my initial impression as well (from what I read on the forum and the announcement itself), like it's an early access title and this free DLC sounds more like a typical update for the latter.

Still, good news, might actually pick the game up now (or after another such update, depending on what people will say). That seemingly unfinished state was what kept me from buying the game on release.
hmmm would have to get an update to see if this would be worth it with the DLC or if it needs another faction or two...

^This. I think it's far more safer to wait a while before buying a new PC game these days. Especially if it comes from companies known for their DLC happy practices...

I hope not. ;)
A release on a Saturday? Based on unofficial records, I don't think this has ever happened before...

There was a huge Terraria update last Saturday which is almost the same as a DLC.
Can someone who has the game please tell me if the new DLC is a separate box on your shelf, because MaGog cannot see any changes in the 8-bit armies file list to reflect a new DLC. If it's not a separate box, then GOG probably changed the game's library ID.

If anyone who has the game can upload his or her library to the wiki, MaGog will be most grateful.

There will be an update to the offline installer. No GameID changes or boxes on the shelf will be made or added. The update is already available via Galaxy.
