Voxels of mass destruction

8-Bit Armies, a fast-paced RTS of blocky voxel mayhem, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount.

War is a ruthless, violent, messy affair. Unless it's done by small blocky men, riding blocky vehicles, and bleeding blocky blood. Then it's also great fun. Because intense voxel warfare requires resources, resourcefulness, and mean commanding skills. But whether you're leading your weird-looking dudes through the 25-mission campaign or against your best friends, figuring out how to take advantage of every situation is only half the fun. The other half is simply spreading chaos and watching the destructible environment and soldiers go boom.

Unleash your 8-Bit Armies upon strategically placed voxels, DRM-free on GOG.com. If you can't get the game's electronic tunes out of your head, be sure to also grab the addictive soundtrack. The 10% launch discount on both the game and its OST will last until April 29, 4:59 PM UTC.
Petroglyph + C&C spirit + Frank Klepacki's music = bought! With soundtrack! :-) Thanks GOG! :-)

Maxvorstadt: Ever played Decathlon on the Atari 2600 console?

gamesfreak64: not on 2600 but i played it on c64 and wrecked my right arm :D
but in those days we were young so all the 'damged' limbs would be able to recover faster.
When the mouse came (started from the amiga period) it took a while to get used to it, games like OP Wulf and OP Thunderbolt were very hard , but once i got used to the mouse :D, hehehehe i got pretty good at it.

I bought Hostages on Amiga disc (2 discs) thats was a very tough game.
Yeah, I remember Hostages very well. Alone the first part of the game, sneaking into the house by avoiding the flashlight spots -which kept moving- was really hard.

Breja: Are big, blocky pixels not ugly enough for you? Use voxels! Voxels make everything look clunky, infantile and samey!

Voxels- when you absolutely, positively want a game that looks like a plate of ass.
It's a matter of taste. Everything does look big and blocky, but it's extremely clean as well. Some folks are going to dislike the look and I certainly understand, but I do kind of like the look of it.

Ghorpm: Looks interesting bu I will wait to see if the devs add more factions and campaigns as a free update (I will buy it then) or paid dlc (I will not)
The devs are currently undecided on that matter.

yup, bang bang uhhh and my team member bought the farm again :D hahaha it was so frustrating
i dont think the game had any save points, cause the retail diskettes were copyright protected (DRM)
there was no save option, and also no codes like commandos had to continue from once you cleared part of the game or progressed in the missions.

I remember , with sweaty palms and shaking hands... slowly very slowly i managed to pass the 'snipers' the most difficult part, so i made the famouse crackingsound with the fingers because my hands and fingers were kinda cramped, and i got ready for the next part... but.... yes flash flash, the amiga came with that error... ** aaarg **
so i could start all over again....

I made it to the decending part from the building where you had to break throught a window.... *kablam* dead again...
i quit the game and never played it again, to frustrating and an expensive wast: 89 guilders back then for a stupid 2diskette game with an ugly blackwhite manual with newspaper quality paper... that was a ripoff.

C64 bruce lee platform game ... got it on c64 tape... died everytime on the electrified tiles that moved along
lucky for me the gameshop which sold the game had a new cardridge: a cardridge to cheat and win lots of games:
99 guilders but it was worth the cash... i could siable the collision detction and when i got past the electrics i ahd to turn it off casue some games might cause the sprite to keep falling down ofscreen...

ye, those where the days ...

Azhdar: Thanks. :)
You're welcome :)
As Grargar quoted in a previous message, there is an official answer which is in short "We're not sure for now".

Not mentioning anywhere on the store page that GOG Galaxy is required to use any multiplayer functionality in the game seems like a rather serious and intentional oversight. Rude, and sadly unsurprising.
I made a thread in the subforum, but if anyone would like to try the co-op campaign feel free to add me. My last game of coop comp stomp was something like 2000 with AoE 2, and I miss it. Thanks!

Well, then I prefer to wait.

The gamecard has been changed already.

Something I've discovered is a the game doesn't just require Galaxy, but the game is linked to an account and the Galaxy must be logged in as the game owner. As in my wife couldn't use her Gog account with my Game install.

Like the wording on https://www.gog.com/galaxy ("GOG GALAXY is a fully optional client").

for offline play or multiplayer?
does it concern campaign in progress or happens as well with a new game?

we'll need some more detailed info ;)

Sorry.

Multiplayer is account linked.

I should have wrote

Something I've discovered is that the multiplayer aspect of the game doesn't just require Galaxy, but the game is linked to an account and the Galaxy must be logged in as the game owner. As in my wife couldn't use her Gog account with my Game install and access multiplayer function.
I've also noticed that Galaxy gets very confused when using another GoG account with another owners games. There is a connect button on each page for the installed game. And I think could saves and such may be disabled too. Not tested it yet though.
