Phc7006: What worries me more is how that Galaxy thing will manage downloads. Will we be able to download installers and patches , or will we have to use an integrated install service, meaning having to be connected to be able to install a game.
I would count that as DRM. Let's hope they don't go that route.

Yeah this is similar to one time online activation drm. I really don't expect them to do that.

Let's hope. There have been quite a few (unpleasant) things happening in 2014 that I didn't expect from Professor Gogenstein... ( Ony a guy called Gogenstein could have come with a stone grey website )

Phc7006: The galaxymonster will anyhow have to have a download module. There are different ways to implement it, and including a function allowing to backup install files is nothing particularily difficult nor demanding.
If that function is included but only as part of the online automated download+installation, I too, like IAmSinistar, would count that as DRM, and wouldn't be pleased at all.

If you read GOG's comments about this, they speak of different installers - the standalone and the Galaxy enabled ones. They also only ever stated that the standalone installers will still be available directly from the site for those that don't want to use the Galaxy client.
These statements, along with dodging any and all questions about using the Galaxy client to download the standalone installers just like with the GOG Downloader, and the tendency GOG has to drop the unpleasant stuff at the very last minute tangled within other 'good news", leads me to think that the Galaxy client won't also work in the way the GOG Downloader does even though they're discontinuing the latter. Which in turn would mean that their statement "your experience with the site won't change" is inaccurate, if not false.

I hope we'll find out soon enough, but as you said, 2014 brought a number of unpleasant things, so I'm not holding my breath that us dinosaurs will be happy.

I'm also curious about how GOG Galaxy will go about backing up installers. I hope we get some satisfactory answers on the subject on the 14th.

I personally hope for both.

How so? Exchanging one optional client for another or even dropping it completely does not or should not change the experience using the site directly. Yes, I'm aware a significant part of the site redesign was for Galaxy.

That's referring to the experience for those using the downloader, if Galaxy won't allow downloading the standalone installers and patches and saving them separately without installing.

What Cavalary said - our experience with the site is not just about browsing it, it's also interacting with it which includes downloading our games.

I realize HypersomniacLive is referring to the downloader. I read what GOG initially posted to be referring to the site directly and not accessing it through any optional clients. It's been a while, and I don't recall exactly how they worded it.

That's exactly my point though - I'm not talking about accessing the site through the Galaxy client, just about firing it up through my library to download my games, just like I do with the GOG Downloader.

If the Galaxy client doesn't come with such a module, wouldn't that (negatively) alter my experience with the site?

No. It would negatively alter your experience with the replacement optional client. You aren't using the site. I will be shocked if the Galaxy client won't allow you to browse your library. The more significant question, which you have asked more than once to no real response, is whether it will support downloading standalone installers & patches.
Looks like we can now say we know regional priced games stay regional priced during promos as well.

At least with this current sale you've got a chance at rolling a regional priced game at the flat rate of $2 (small comfort). Though I'm curious how the $2 mutator price looks to people using their local currency.
