I agree it's ridiculous, but I can also see where they're likely coming from: can you imagine the hell they'd have to go through if a psycho Karen (like some of the politicians in certain countries) got word of them being available? Especially since all that stops underaged persons from buying these games from GOG right now is trust and honesty about your age... Ugh. Just thinking of the screeching is giving me a headache.

But I agree it's incredibly stupid and sad. Not GOG's fault though - that blame lies solely on the people who keep voting in stupid politicians with awful policies, and countries that don't do anything to protect freedom of speech and expression, which causes companies like GOG to have to be overly cautious. :/

Sorry I don't agree. They are all available in countries like US / UK so same problems yet "no problems" for those areas.

UK and US do not have the same punishments or laws compared to countries like Australia and Germany. I didn't want to go into detail because I was trying to not make the post any more political than it already was.

While there might be the same level of surface complaints from naysayers around the world, Australia and Germany have a very specific set of laws that are not comparable to US/UK. And the way the topic is handled by their politicians is not comparable.

So if politicians in Aus/Germany discover that GOG is providing a service to their citizens, then they are (unfortunately) able to bring legal shit down on GOG's head. GOG doesn't want to deal with that, so... easiest solution is to just not make the games available there.
Politicians in UK/US have not shown the same zeal about these issues as have the ones in Aus/Germany, and so that is likely why GOG continues to sell to those countries.

That's why I was saying it's an issue with laws and people with power - that is the stuff that makes companies have to self-censor. Which is bullshit, and unfair, but something I begrudgingly understand.

Have you had a look on steam to see if they are available there (not to buy, but to see if they are region locked there)
I can see them both of these on steam for the NZ region (and the other two recent games, Subverse and Evenicle I can see on steam for the NZ region as well)

If your company is located within the EU (and GOG is), then German law applies to your company and is enforcable upon you through the EU, if you're selling your games to German customers.

So you got three options:
a) move your company out of the EU
b) don't sell to German customers
c) comply

Also: The purpose of the law is youth protection. The onus of that cannot be on the youth itself, it has to be on the service provider.

Steam does block them in Germany.

Problem is that the mentioned games (Being a Dik / Acting Lessons) aren't blocked n Germany because they are not allowed or indexed they are blocked because the Medienanstalt Schleswig Holstein adressed certain stores because they are the opinion that it is far too easy to get porn on the internet. They also adressed actual porn sites and failed miserably. Kind of funny since right now it is far more easy to get actual porn than games that might contain some porn while still being a game at core. For the record: I also don't believe in any of the youth protection laws since they are pretty much useless when it somes to the internet - but that's another discussion.

It seems the new boob game Dead End Aegis is locked for me.

Context if anyone's wondering: Japan has law against uncensored porn, and since the game most likely has such type of contents, it probably got blocked to avoid legal issues.

I came here actually to give a reply about Song of Saya. I kept seeing the picture being advertised on Facebook, and even in the banner- but I didn't see the game and was confused. It took me a while to google and I found this thread.

I was able to see Song of Saya as an option in the search results, but I am not allowed to see the page at all.
It's weird, because I already own this on Steam without this restriction. (I mean, my Steam copy is likely censored, but still)

I didn't realise there were other games I wasn't seeing... and I also didn't realise there were more than just this Jast sale.
