This is the internet, when has any of that been realistic? Mr. Gog has been counting on us to do that, but quite frankly, this forum cannot indefinitely hold out against GIFT. And we're seeing the results. Sometimes people do just need to be banned or at least receive a talking to.

Those things usually work if there's at least some chance of being banned. But, without that threat of banishment, the trolls can just keep going and going until they wear down the self-discipline of the other forum goers.

Pointing out nes-alts and preventing them from grabbing more games is what gets a rise out of him. If left unnoticed he will continue exploiting without any consequences and won't have a reason to go ape shit on the forum like yesterday. If GOG gets a whole bunch of support tickets regarding scamming then all they would do is suggest to stop gifting and trading period.

What we need to do is stop reporting the disgusting posts and threads so that the forum fills up with it. When customers that don't frequent the forum start highlighting the crap and are driven away only then GOG will take notice. Its not our responsibility to clean up the mess on the forum as GOG should have a dedicated community manager instead of the PR/social media handler stopping by here once in a blue moon.

There are not very many people here, I would imagine no more than 20-30 frequent posters, it should be do-abale. GOG shouldnt have to "count" on people having common sense, If a troll has nobody to spark off then they will stop. Banning is pointless, people will just make another account. I have no idea what GIFT means. :)

HELL NO, in fact not doing anything HELPS THEM, because there is no one to stop them and there WILL ALWAYS BE VICTIMS because NOT EVERYONE has the same contact or reach to talk, announce or be heard from other people, so there will be always SOMEONE who falls for the TRAP, so this idea of yours? doesn't work, that is why he says also to at least MAKE CONTACT, you are just addressing an OPTION to solving the problem anyway, you haven't addressed that one.

The plot of The Magnificant Seven is a rather bizarre metaphor for trolls on a gaming forum. Police yourself, be responsible for your own actions, if someone else "falls into this "TRAP" as you put it, so be it, they are responsible for their own actions. How are they "VICTIMS"? Its a gaming forum, none of us really exist, but if they are "VICTIMS", they are " .VICTIMS" of their own lack of common sense.

Trolls are only a problem if you interact with them.

An ignore function would work I`d of thunk.

there are more & more idiots + more & more insuls / harrassements

at one point i know some people who have stopped to post there because of this, so zero moderation isn't the solution , in the long run it will hurt gog if it's not already the case yet.

so sorry this place is became less & less friendly than the day i joined, and without a minimum of moderation this will continue unless ALL people start to moderate themselves (but i don't i high hope)

They shouldn't have to, but this is the internet. This kind of thing has been a problem since pretty much the beginning. The only real times when it's not a problem are when the people involved are interested in some tiny niche or actually see each other in real life.

I've been on the internet now for nearly 20 years and it was a problem by the time I started coming online and it will be a problem well past the point where I can go online and will probably be a problem after I'm dead. Counting on people from various parts of the world with various cultural expectations to play well together without the normal social cues is just not realistic.
It's amazing to me that libertarians don't see the flaw in their reasoning. Moderation would lead to censorship, but we are on a corporate website where there are rules against certain kinds of speech. The only way to avoid moderation is for us to self-censor and behave ourselves removing the need for moderation.

I've been on sites with good moderation and I've been on sites with bad moderation. A site with good moderation can have a huge area of free speech without turning into a cesspool. A site like this with no moderation might as well be a site with bad moderation as you get bullies and kangaroo courts filling the power vacuum.

Well, that also depends on where you hang out, I think.

For someone like me who is mostly a lurker, doesn't trade, rarely partecipate or make giveaways, and stays well away from anything GG related (which is where most of the drama is brewing, if I'm not mistaken) the forums haven't really changed much in the past few years.
A lot of people who glorify the Good Old Days also tend to forget we had massive flamefests and drama queens even back then, albeit on different subjects; but I suppose that's part of the problem: for many, a flamefest regarding american gun control, or EA/DRM/Steam, or republicans vs democrats was probably more interesting than one on regional prices or Gog refusing Hatred. To each their own, of course. I for one I'm glad the habit of having 3-4 weekly megathreads on Steam and DRM has finally died out.

Also, 'Community' is not limited to General Discussion: the game forums always were (and still are) much more relaxed than GD. And there's plenty of nice and helpful people who prefer to stay there and rarely post in here. If you guys are tired of the drama on Gog but don't really want to leave, perhaps take a look at the subforums, they could use more traffic for sure.

Sure , subforums are more relaxed ; i don't speak about them ; i visit them when i have a problem , but GOG's subforums deserve a better organisation than the current one (that's another topic ofc).

Indeed, section 9.1.g used to be the only one that they'd actually enforce. But, it's been ages since I saw them enforce that.

I say that they institute a policy of bare bottom spankings for all that behave badly. A hardly spanked bottom is just the thing for the children that are misbehaving.

Some good advice in your post. For what it's worth, I tend to follow all of these little interwebs rules. In fact, I'm not sure why anyone would not. Seems like it should be common sense -- but then, you know what they say about common sense.
