So, am seriously thinking about picking up a PS4 around xmas just to be able to play GOW and RDR2 as neither is likely to come to PC (although rumoured for RDR2 it will be laden with DRM, Social Club etc.).
RDR2 looks amazing, and the first game is one of my favourites. Looking on eBay there appear to be lot which are working condition but banned online. Is that a bad thing? Is it worth an extra 80-100£ for one not banned?
I see there is no backwards compatability for PSX/2/3, unless you count the rentalwares, so thats a major negative. Any other online/account based requirements? I liked that the PS3 was buy the disc, play the disc, nothing else needed.

No other detrimental things except installnig a game from the disc takes FOREVER. And you will install the complete game from the disc. We bought Wipeout Omega collection and it took about an hour and a half to get it to playable condition. Other than that, if you have the disc, you can play the game. You do have to pay for online services if interested (MP in most games and cloud saves etc etc) but single player experiences are definitely good... IF you don't mind the wait for the disc to install.

After what happened with Grand Theft Auto V, and more recently former third party exclusives like Yakuza and the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy. I wouldn't bet on Red Dead Redemption 2 staying exclusive for very long. It's hard, but I'd suggest being patient.

Oh, its not the waiting thats the problem. There are suggestions that it will come to PC. The problem there is that its R*. So it will be massively overloaded with DRM, Social Club, and any other amount of spyware, trackers etc. I had that back with GTA4 that I brought full retail at launch, and only managed to play half hour or so after many calls to support. Eventually gave up and only came back to it years later when a crack had been provided. (Actually in terms of GTA4, not playing it would have been better). So yes, I avoid R* on PC. Why? RDR was excellent on PS3, even with the wiggly stick aiming nonsense. I don't mindf the buy disc, play disc concept.

Its just my thing I don't play on consoles ever. I only play on pc's. Never been a fan of consoles.

Ah, that makes sense then. I did the same with Ubisoft, back when the Assassin's Creed games were decent. Not worth putting up with Ubisoft's bloatware to play what's now a ten year old game. Hoping one day we'll get the Ezio games on here, but I'm not holding my breath.
