Hi everybody!

I just downloaded The Champions of Krynn, and was hoping to screen capture my game using OBS Studio. That's when I found out that OBS Studio works kind of funny with DosBox (it records the game, but as a little window in the top left side of the screen.)

I did a bunch of research to figure out how to solve this problem, but most sites just think I can open up the DosBox Config file, make an edit or two, and magically solve my problem. But GOG does a good job hiding the config files... I'm having trouble hunting them down.

So... anybody else out there use OBS to record GOG games? Or, failing that, anybody know how to open up the config file? Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

If you open the directory of the game you want to record there should be several .conf files, these are the configuration files.
If there are several of them, you'll want the one without _settings or _single at the end.
That probably also be the largest of the .conf files, that's the one with the video settings.
Or you can use the DOSBox configuration tool in the game's directory, it's a little tool GOG made that lets you make a couple of basic changes without having to open the configuration files yourself.

when i record dosbox video, i generally use a thing called "blackberry flashback express." it's "free-ish" [in the sense that you have to give them an email for a key that you then paste into the program on first run.]

i've never tried straight-up recording gog-based games in dosbox, but i imagine it'd be /more-or-less/ similar. you may have to mess with the configuration files, though, because you may need to figure out which renderer [in particular] dosbox is using. [ogl/d3d/etc]

Unfortunately, I'm still stuck. I thought that altering the config file to "Output=Opengl" that it would solve my problem, but it doesn't. It does the same thing that happens when I open the DosBox Configuration program and change over to Opengl. DosBox starts up fine, with the Tandy line at the top. Then it goes black. The music plays in the background so I know the program is running works. There's just no accompanying graphics.

Just to be sure, I checked, and yes I do have Opengl. Man, this is annoying.

I recall having some issues with that, at least that I couldn't include the MIDI (MT-32 with Munt) music to the video, it would capture the audio only if I used Adlib/Soundblaster music for the game. I also recall I wasn't quite happy with the recorded video quality, but I don't remember the specifics there. It was mainly the lack of "MT-32 support" that killed it for me.

I used CamStudio (2.7 something) to record the DOS games (playing MT-32 music), but there I recall I had a problem that I couldn't get it to record full screen video, if running the DOSBox game fullscreen.

So what I did instead was to run the DOSBox game in a small window, and then tell CamStudio to record that specific window (I think I had to crop the recording area manually pixel-perfectly so that it wouldn't include window borders etc., so that it would look like it was running fullscreen when watching the recorded video). I don't know if it would have recorded the fullscreen output by changing DOSBox renderer or something...

Gor! Thanks for that InfraSuperman. It didn't work, but the Dosbox icon appeared in fullsize before the screen decided to show me some other garbage which was a mishmash of random items on my desktop. Progress is progress, though. I'll take what I can get at this point, and get some sleep. Zzzz..

Got it! While I couldn't get Windowed mode to work correctly for some strange reason, telling Display Capture to fit the screen worked. It's not the 100% best solution, but it certainly gets the job done. Thank you everyone!

If you want to use a window, you have to add a 'Game Capture' after the game is running or else it won't show.

Yeah, just had same problem with OBS.
source: screen capture - right click - positioning - fit to fullscreen
source: game capture - when adding this source there is checkbox already with option fit to fullscreen.
Both methods works great.

This is a helpful thread. I was able to solve the exact same problem by making sure BOTH Game Capture AND Screen Capture are Fit To Screen, if that helps anyone streamline this in the future.
