Vnlr: Sorry, I thought the game had officially become abandoned freeware and openly available as is, I'll edit it out

amok: no worries, it can be confusing. Per definition, abandonware can never be freeware. It is an either or thingy. Easily available does not mean freeware, just..... pirated a lot....
exactly... but there is one thing the big bucks game/movie companies will always forget:

Everyone wants to be able to have/see/buy all available movies/music and games they see, and they all should have the means , so no geo restrictions shites or whatever plus all things should be available at the exact same time, so no b-shites that some countries will have to wait 6 months or more before its availaible, with digital only there is NO barrier, theres no shipping so the entire world can acces all available stuff and buy/rent it at the same time..

that's... not exactly related to what I was talking about... at all... but OK? not sure what the point is, though.
I do believe these two are:

Evils Doom

The Ur-Quan Masters

true, but you mentioned the word pirated, we all know that there will always be people who wont buy games , even if they were gazillionaire they would still not buy anything.
But lets forget these few... people think that the games/movie bosses can reduce that piracy a lot, just by doing what i mentioned in my reply: make all things for sale availaible to the whole world, and don t exclude regions :D
it wont stop it, but they would be getting lots more cash, thats for sure, but i think these guys like to be in control.
So thats why the big p word will always be happening.

this has absolutely nothing to do with this tread in the slightest, so I will just leave this conversation. No point derailing this thread into the ethics of piracy, even if I mentioned the word in relation to "abandonware". Your spin on this is just a completely different direction than what this thread is about, so good luck.
I'm not sure how to find out for sure, but I'm under the impression that both Mechcommander Gold and Battlezone 1 are free these days:
http://mechcommander.co.uk/pages/downloads/
http://www.battlezone1.com/downloads/index.htm
Both are absolutely excellent, and both work flawlessly on modern systems (well at least on a 64 bit win 7 system)

Another game's freeware statues I'm also not sure about is Abuse.

is free and a pretty fun RTS, but the quirky pathfinding and suicidal unit behaviour made the game a bit unbearable for me after a while. A better option might be [url=https://www.gog.com/game/earth_2150_trilogy]Eath 2150 which has some similarities.

Apart from that I also recently tried out and [url=http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/]Dwarf Fortress, each of which recently received a massive update. NH and DF are two of the most unexpectedly awesome games I've ever played, but both do require a solid day or so of pulling your hair out though, just to figure out how to play, especially DF. Once you've scaled that barrier however, weeks and weeks of incredible madness awaits.

Sabin_Stargem: The freeware version of La-Mulana is worth experiencing: It has a visual aesthetic that is very retro, straight from the era of the MSX computer. In some ways, I find it more appealing than the updated look of the commercial remake. Ditto goes for the soundtrack.

La-Mulana PV #2 - Comparison Edition
Available for download translated to English here : http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana

amok: I forgot the name of a free game... I think it is another game from digipen students, but not sure. it is not their website. It is a sort of a racer, but more like race the sun i.e. you do not race anyone. Your character is on a hoverboard thingy, and you get speed from stunts and wall running and so on. There is some sort of story, which is kind of given via twitter on the phone. It was quite good.

edit - never mind, I found it: Zineth. and it was roller-blades, not hoverboard.

trailer- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCr5twS6xc8
Zineth seems like Jet Grind/Set Radio but on drugs, will have to try this game out

I have the original Mech Commander on retail cd but 16bit games wont run on that ..... 64 bits win7 i have so i cant install it.
There are so many good 16bits games that really need a way to be able to be run again on a 64bits system
I mean nowadays there's just too much garbage released among games, looks like they forgot how to create real good games instead of crappy games which seem to be produced by the thousands a day or so...
the internet is bloated with lots of crapware games being released these days and are tried to be sold.

Worst thing is having bought lots of 16 bits game on retail that wont run anymore.

You should try the download link then. Apart from a simple trick to copy the contents of the mechcommander gold iso to some specific folder, or something like that, it works flawlessly on a 64bit win 7 system.

You're talking to gamesfreak, here. He doesn't so much go off on a tangent of his own as he occasionally comes back from one. =P

nah, its not that i dont care for some things, or fail to care for it properly.
Its just when i see some posts talking about so called games that were 'abandoned' and i read that most of the time they seem to like these old games from the past better then most of the games today..
I just compare my 40 years of gaming with the gaming experience i have with todays games, )before that i already had those handheld lcd games the ones that costed 15 guilders or so)
and unfortunately if i discard the 400 (or even more retail casualgames (cd/dvd) and 300 digital casualgames (all drm free ofcourse)
i came to the conclusion that the major part of my games are the old classic games, 75% or maybe more is old, and in my case there arent that many modern games that suit me, based on my personal experience in gaming for over 40 years.
But fortunately there are still some good designers, i watched some videos of shardlight (wadjeteye)
and this game is one of the few newly released games that will be added to my good old games collection.
I like my games simple , so: no 3d, no FPP, no rotating, and more hightech stuff like that , but just good old enjoyable games.
